About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in software engineering or quality engineering, with robust Java development expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience using and enhancing an existing enterprise or departmental automation framework.
  • Deep expertise in test automation tools including Selenium, Appium, Playwright, REST-Assured, TestNG, JUnit, Maven, and Gradle.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor, and prompt engineering for code and tests; use large language models for test generation, code review suggestions, log summarization, and triage.
  • Strong knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery tools, including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Argo, and Spinnaker, and quality gates.
  • Experience testing media and streaming applications across connected-TV platforms including Roku, Fire TV, and Android TV/Google TV; SmartTV platforms including Tizen and webOS; iOS and Android mobile applications; and web.
  • Hands-on validation of HLS/DASH, adaptive bitrate streaming, DRM, captions and subtitles, and quality-of-experience metrics.
  • Cloud experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure, and containerization with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of software design patterns, data structures, and core engineering principles.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance and extend the existing Java-based departmental test automation framework for API, UI, mobile, connected-TV/SmartTV, and integration testing, introducing reusable libraries, utilities, and patterns to improve stability and scale.
  • Establish scalable patterns for reusable test components, data management, assertions, parallelization, and distributed execution.
  • Integrate the framework into continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines to support shift-left testing and continuous quality.
  • Promote AI-assisted development and testing using tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and large-language-model assistants to improve developer productivity, test authoring, code reviews, and defect triage.
  • Use prompt engineering and retrieval techniques for test-case generation, log and telemetry summarization, video-quality anomaly detection, and root-cause analysis.
  • Evaluate and integrate functional AI capabilities to reduce test flakiness, false positives, and triage time within the existing framework.
  • Expand automation coverage for video playback, streaming resiliency, DRM flows, server-side and client-side ad insertion, captions and subtitles, and content protection.
  • Validate quality-of-experience metrics, including startup time, rebuffering ratio, frame drops, video/audio synchronization, and error recovery, across Roku, Fire TV, Android TV/Google TV, Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Apple TV, iOS/Android mobile apps, and modern web players.
  • Use media tools such as ffmpeg/ffprobe, Charles/Fiddler, and player inspection APIs for diagnostics and validation.
  • Define technical strategy for automated testing across services, microservices, user interfaces, mobile apps, and OTT/CTV applications using the departmental framework.
  • Promote adoption of engineering best practices, coding standards, and high-quality test-development patterns.
  • Lead evaluation and adoption of modern automation technologies and quality platforms.
  • Partner with Video Engineering, Playback/Player, Ads/Monetization, CDN/Streaming Operations, and Platform teams to validate streaming experiences and ad workflows.
  • Collaborate with Product to align test coverage with business priorities and quality goals.
  • Work with Platform and Data Engineering to support scalable test environments, quality data, and telemetry.
  • Design and implement complex automated test suites using Java, Selenium, Appium, JMeter, Locust, REST-Assured, TestNG/JUnit, and related tools within the existing framework.
  • Build testing strategies for API/contract, integration, performance/reliability, and device-level testing for connected-TV/SmartTV, mobile, and web.
  • Diagnose and address automation reliability, environment instability, device fragmentation, and system integration issues.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience mentoring engineers or leading cross-functional automation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with observability and application performance monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, New Relic, and Datadog, and media telemetry tools such as Conviva, MUX, and NPAW.
  • Experience with contract testing using PACT, service virtualization, or synthetic media test data.
  • Exposure to connected-TV/SmartTV automation stacks and remote device labs.
