Requirements
  • A CPA designation is required or actively in progress, with 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience including hands-on financial reporting and analysis.
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
  • Solid experience in inventory accounting, cost of sales, and margin analysis is required.
  • Experience with external audit is required.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, standards, and regulations, including ASPE, is required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and complex formulas, are required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous improvement are required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders, are required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities and deadlines with integrity and professionalism is required.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE and company policies.
  • Own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations for allowances, royalties, payroll, and sales tax.
  • Own inventory and cost accounting processes, including inventory valuation, reserves, landed costs, freight capitalization, vendor funding, foreign exchange impacts, and gross margin analysis.
  • Support monthly consolidations and intercompany accounting across multiple legal entities, including reconciliations and eliminations.
  • Support ERP optimization initiatives and ensure accounting processes, controls, and reporting are integrated within Business Central.
  • Prepare and analyze revenue and margin reports, including variance analysis to identify discrepancies and opportunities for financial improvement.
  • Analyze financial data and trends to provide actionable insights and recommendations to management, including support for budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Support the preparation of internal management reports and financial packages for senior leadership.
  • Partner with Finance Operations, FP&A, Operations, Merchandising, and Supply Chain teams to provide financial analysis, respond to inquiries, and support accurate and consistent reporting.
  • Maintain and support internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and support external audits, including preparation of audit schedules, reconciliations, and responses to auditor inquiries.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and controls within the accounting function.
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc analyses to support business objectives.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting team members, support their technical development, and review their work where appropriate.
Desired Qualifications
  • Audit experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in retail, wholesale, or consumer goods is a strong asset.
  • Experience with Business Central or similar ERP systems is preferred.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset.
