Skillz unveils Pro SDK at GDC 2026 for expanded developer control and monetisation

Skillz, a mobile games platform, will unveil its Pro SDK at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on 11 March. The new software development kit offers developers greater creative control whilst maintaining Skillz's competitive gaming infrastructure. Pro SDK enables developers to build customised user experiences, integrate progression systems, and introduce layered monetisation models including cosmetic economies and in-app advertising. The platform integrates Beamable's live-service backend technology to support real-time content updates and virtual economies. Puzzle Blockz will serve as the first live implementation of Pro SDK. Skillz acquires Beamable's backend tech to expand game development platform

Skillz has acquired the backend technology and assets of live operations service Beamable for an undisclosed sum. The deal includes backend services, microservices architecture and live operations tooling. Beamable's existing leadership team, including CEO Jon Radoff, COO Trapper Markelz and CTO Ali El Rhermoul, will remain to continue developing the platform. The acquisition provides additional resources whilst maintaining the same team that built and supports the service. Skillz said the purchase will expand its platform capabilities, helping development teams build, operate and monetise games more effectively. The company aims to combine Beamable's backend technology with its existing competition, payment and integrity systems to create a comprehensive development platform.
