Requirements
  • A Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in counseling, social work, or another mental health-related field.
  • Licensure as an LPC, LCSW, or LMFT in Tennessee, or out-of-state licensure with eligibility for Tennessee licensure within one year of employment.
  • Certification in at least one trauma treatment, such as EMDR or Brain Spotting.
  • Specialty training in suicide ideation, homicide ideation, psychosis, eating disorders, alcohol and other drug concerns, trauma, or other relevant needs.
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with high-acuity patients.
  • Experience in crisis care evaluation and intervention.
  • Training in trauma-informed practices.
  • Experience with young adult populations.
  • Ability to function in an acute-care model for assessment and management of clinical emergencies.
  • Ability to form and maintain meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively interact with patients or clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to perform intersectional work involving identity development and trauma.
  • Demonstrated team orientation in style and philosophy.
Responsibilities
  • Provide professional, short-term mental health services to students.
  • Provide integrated assessments of students presenting for counseling, including the influence of biopsychosocial variables on treatment, to guide subsequent treatment planning.
  • Develop treatment plans addressing student needs within a short-term, multidisciplinary, and multimodal system of care, and collaborate with other treatment resources.
  • Participate in planning intervention and skill-development programs for students based on emerging campus mental health trends and needs.
  • Develop working relationships with Vanderbilt community partners, including Student Care Network entities, academic deans, faculty, residential staff, Student Affairs departments, Vanderbilt University Police Department, and other relevant campus partners.
  • Provide outreach and educational programming to the campus community.
  • Maintain timely documentation for recordkeeping and communication with other service providers in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
  • Provide clinical assessments and follow-up services for students experiencing mental health crises.
  • Respond to mental health emergencies in a culturally responsive manner.
  • Identify interventions for students in crisis and work with CAPS, Student Care Network staff, and campus partners to develop support and safety plans.
  • Confer with the CAPS continuity counseling team to determine whether referral after stabilization is appropriate or whether care should remain with the RESET team.
  • Communicate with campus partners supporting students in crisis and develop intervention strategies to ensure student safety and support.
  • Collaborate with Vanderbilt University Medical Center Emergency Department, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, the Partial Hospital Program, and community providers to support student outcomes and transitions to and from outside care.
  • Serve on divisional committees and working groups.
  • Participate in division-wide events as needed.
  • Learn and comply with financial policies and procedures for travel, procurement, and expense reporting.
  • Engage in professional development, including presentations at relevant conferences and workshops.
  • Perform other duties that enhance the student experience or facilitate the success of the University, division, or department.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge, experience, and skills providing services to diverse student populations, including APIDA, international, Latinx, African-American, LGBTQI, military, first-generation, low-income, and rural populations.
  • Fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Bengali, or another Asian language.
  • Skill in written and oral communication, including public speaking and group meeting facilitation.
