DAN and Garmin work together to enhance remote diving emergency response.

DAN and Garmin work together to enhance remote diving emergency response. Divers Alert Network(R)(DAN(R), the world's leading dive safety association, and Garmin announced the integration of the DAN Emergency Hotline into Garmin's inReach(R) emergency response pathway for DAN members, strengthening support for divers in remote environments[1]. The new integration connects Garmin's global satellite-based emergency coordination capabilities with DAN's dive medicine expertise, potentially enabling more streamlined access to specialized consultation during dive-related emergencies. For DAN members who include their DAN member number in the Emergency Notes section of their inReach account, Garmin Response(SM) coordinators can contact DAN's emergency hotline and consult directly with dive medicine professionals while continuing to coordinate local rescue resources. "Remote diving continues to grow in increasingly challenging environments," said Cliff Richardson, President and CEO of DAN. "This collaboration reflects DAN's commitment to ensuring that our members have access to specialized support when and where they need it most. By bringing dive medicine expertise into the response process more efficiently, we can better support divers wherever their adventures take them." Garmin Response, a professional emergency coordination center staffed 24 hours a day, coordinates assistance through Garmin's satellite communication network. Through the integration, Garmin Response continues to coordinate rescue efforts, while DAN provides specialized dive medicine consultation during the emergency coordination phase. Once an injured diver reaches a medical facility, DAN Medical and Assistance Services may provide continued support as appropriate. "We are proud to work with DAN to enhance support for divers who rely on Garmin technology in remote environments," said Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing. "By connecting Garmin Response with DAN's trusted dive medicine resources, we can help ensure divers have access to specialized expertise when it matters most." DAN members who use Garmin inReach devices with an active subscription plan are encouraged to add their DAN member number to the Emergency Notes section of their inReach account so Garmin Response can connect with DAN during a dive-related emergency. To learn how to add a DAN member number to an inReach plan, visit garmin.com.

Garmin Cirqa Smart Ring took another step closer to launch.

Garmin Cirqa Smart Ring took another step closer to launch. Sep 8, 2026 Garmin could be about to enter a whole new sector in the world of fitness tracking, following on from the momentum of its first-ever screenless wearable, the Garmin Cirqa Smart Band. Summary created by Smart Answers AI In summary: * According to Tech Advisor, the Garmin Cirqa Smart Ring has moved closer to launch after receiving regulatory certifications in Brazil and China. * The device belongs to Garmin's new Cirqa range of screenless wearables and may come in ten sizes, with a release expected by late 2026 or early 2027. * The ring follows the Cirqa Smart Band and could increase competition against rivals like Oura and Samsung in the smart ring market. Tech Advisor has already seen a few leaks suggesting that Garmin is working on a smart ring to rival the likes of Oura and Samsung, but the most recent tidbit of information hints that a release could be here sooner than Tech Advisor thought. A new certification from Brazil's Anatel regulatory agency for an unnamed product boasting 10 unique variations has been spotted by Gadgets & Wearables. Given that other smart rings like the Oura Ring 5 (above) come in a wide variety of sizes, it's far more likely that the listing is for a Garmin-branded smart ring than anything else. What's interesting is that four of the model numbers were also registered in China earlier this month, and all of this comes after a certificate was given by the Indonesian authorities for a product plainly listed as the 'Cirqa Smart Ring'. The fact that Tech Advisor is now seeing all of this regulatory activity ramping up would suggest that a launch for the Garmin Cirqa Ring could be just around the corner, so don't be too surprised if the new wearable turns up in the next few months, possibly before the end of 2026 or early in 2027. Although 2026 has seen the release of updated Garmin mainstays like the new Garmin Fenix 9 range, the year has also brought about a slight pivot in strategy to compete in new areas. Tech Advisor has already tested and reviewed the Garmin Cirqa Smart Band, which is the company's first screenless fitness tracker, pitted against the Fitbit Air and the Whoop Strap 5.0. It's now clear that 'Cirqa' is a new range of devices rather than just a one-off and it will be interesting to see what features of the Smart Band are carried over to the Cirqa Smart Ring - particularly if it gets a physical button to start workouts. While there's definite room for improvement in a successor, the Cirqa Smart Band is still a great fitness tracker in its own right, particularly as it offers a ton of workout and health data without the need for a subscription, something that can't be said of the Whoop Strap. Elsewhere, Tech Advisor is still waiting to feast its eyes upon the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2. Even though Samsung has confirmed that it is working on a successor to the original Galaxy Ring, the Ring 2 was an omission from the July Unpacked event, which unveiled devices such as the Galaxy Fold 8 and the Galaxy Watch 9. When Garmin does finally announce the Cirqa Smart Ring, however, the fight amongst the best smart rings is sure to heat up, so stay tuned for its further coverage when more information inevitably drops. Garmin expands subscription strategy with launch of Connect+ premium app tier (2026).

Garmin expands subscription strategy with launch of Connect+ premium app tier (2026). Table of Contents Garmin launches Connect+, a new premium subscription tier in its Garmin Connect app. While Garmin has offered subscription services before, this marks its first internally developed app-based plan, featuring AI coaching and exclusive training tools. Garmin is expanding its presence in the subscription economy with the launch of Garmin Connect+, a new premium tier within the Garmin Connect app. While Garmin has long offered subscriptions tied to specific hardware - such as satellite communication via inReach or advanced mapping features - Connect+ represents the company's first internally developed, app-only subscription offering, designed to add value directly within its core fitness app ecosystem. Available now for $6.99/month or $69.99/year (with a 30-day free trial), Garmin Connect+ introduces a set of premium features targeting serious fitness users. Highlights include: * Active Intelligence, an AI-powered system delivering personalized health and activity insights throughout the day * A Performance Dashboard, offering advanced visualizations of training data * Live Activity, enabling users to view heart rate, pace, reps, and workout videos in real-time via a compatible smartwatch and smartphone * Personalized training programs with Garmin running and cycling coaches, complete with exclusive educational content and videos * Expanded LiveTrack features, allowing contacts to follow a user's progress in real time through personalized pages * Social and motivational elements, such as exclusive badge challenges, including "Running Climbs" (500m elevation in a month) and "Power Cycling" (4 hours in power zone 3) These features bring Garmin more in line with other fitness tech platforms like Whoop, Fitbit, and Oura, all of which offer subscription-based access to advanced features and insights. "We are excited to provide even more personalized data and enriched features with the addition of Garmin Connect+. You can now learn even more about yourself, take on new challenges, train confidently and stay even more connected," said Susan Lyman, Garmin's VP of Consumer Sales and Marketing. However, the rollout has not been universally welcomed. As reported by AOL, Garmin users on Reddit voiced concerns about the company's shift in strategy, noting that Garmin previously positioned itself as a no-subscription alternative in the fitness wearables market. Some fear this may be the start of a broader paywalling trend. "Getting sick of these tech companies trying to milk my money with low value crap like Connect+," wrote one Reddit user. Others speculated that more essential features might eventually be locked behind a paywall, reducing the value of already-expensive Garmin devices. Also, while some media coverage described this as Garmin's first subscription product, longtime users and health tech experts quickly noted that Garmin currently offers a number of subscriptions - primarily tied to third-party services or hardware-based features. What's new is that Connect+ is fully developed and managed in-house, offering software-only value within Garmin's flagship app. Insider take. Garmin's launch of Connect+ is a strategic evolution - not a first step - into the subscription market. Unlike previous Garmin subscriptions that were hardware- or partner-driven, Connect+ signals a move to monetize the software ecosystem directly, building recurring revenue through premium app features that require no external licensing or hardware add-ons. This reflects a broader trend: value layering through subscriptions, especially in fitness tech, where Apple, Fitbit, Whoop, and Oura have built business models around premium app tiers. Garmin is wisely maintaining a clear boundary between free and paid features and leveraging its loyal user base by offering a free trial to reduce friction. Still, the community reaction highlights the risks of shifting perception. While Garmin isn't paywalling existing functionality, users are wary of "subscription creep" - the idea that future features will only be available behind a paywall, ultimately reducing the long-term value of expensive devices. For subscription operators, Garmin's rollout is a timely reminder: pricing models are as much about psychology and trust as they are about features. Done right, Connect+ could become a compelling case study in adding recurring value without alienating customers - but only if Garmin stays transparent and continuously delivers meaningful enhancements. * By Kathleen Greenler Sexton * March 27, 2025 * Filed inConsumer Services, Direct-to-Consumer, Industry Announcements, News Kathleen Greenler Sexton Kathy Greenler Sexton is a recognized authority on digital subscription business models, market strategy, and operational excellence. GPRO stock jumps 55% overnight: retail calls youtuber's nearly $10M investment momentum 'only getting started'

GPRO stock jumps 55% overnight: retail calls youtuber's nearly $10M investment momentum 'only getting started' Published: Sep 01 2026, 08:00 AM IST * FB * TW * Linkdin * Whatsapp * GNFollow Us YouTuber Markiplier has bought 8.5% of GoPro, boosting retail interest. * Markiplier believes GoPro is undervalued, and his interest is tied to his goal of making filmmaking more accessible. * GoPro stock has fallen 37% this year, and the company is competing against larger corporations like Sony and Garmin. * On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the stock jumped to 'extremely bullish'. GoPro Inc. (GPRO) stock jumped over 55% overnight after YouTube creator Markiplier disclosed an 8.5% stake worth roughly $9.3 million, making him the company's largest shareholder. The surprise investment sent the beaten-down camera maker soaring and fueled a wave of retail speculation that the rally could extend further. Markiplier now owns 8.5% of GoPro. According to an SEC filing dated Aug.20, Mark Fischbach, better known online as Markiplier, now owns 8.5% of GoPro. According to a Bloomberg report, the 37-year-old creator said he considers the company undervalued and wants to see it succeed. Markiplier wants to make professional filmmaking easier and more affordable for online creators. His movie Iron Lung earned about $51 million from a $3 million budget, showing that creators can succeed without Hollywood studios. Fischbach has changed his opinion on GoPro cameras after trying the new Mission 1 Pro ILS, which is small, lightweight, and built for higher-quality filmmaking. GoPro stock traded nearly 56% higher overnight, after a 46% rally in the regular session, notching its best day ever. GPRO: A troubled stock. Fischbach's investment comes despite GoPro's difficult performance in public markets. The shares have dropped more than 55% this year and over 90% during the past five years. The company has also been reviewing strategic options and warned of significant uncertainty surrounding its ability to remain operational over the coming year. GoPro still faces major challenges. Sony (SONY) is strong in imaging technology, while Garmin (GRMN) is a major competitor in outdoor and fitness products. GoPro is much smaller, making it harder to compete in technology, product development and distribution. GoPro has also sought approval for a potential sale of up to $800 million in Class A shares, including up to $100 million in newly issued stock. Additional shares could create selling pressure. What GPRO retail traders are saying. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the stock jumped to 'extremely bullish' from 'neutral' territory. The stock saw a 5,671% surge in message volume over the past week with a 0.4% gain in watchers. A user said, "all in only getting started, due for a mega spike higher and longer than everyone expects." Another user said, "40 million subscribers. All we need is one million of them to buy 200 shares each!" referring to Markiplier's subscriber count. A third user quipped, "I had forgotten about this one but bought some shares after hours because I like their product and the new camera looks solid with the interchangeable lens. We will see if we can get another $GME. It's been too long." GPRO stock has crashed 41% in the past year.
