Requirements
  • A valid New York State limited intern permit is required.
  • Successfully completed the first professional year of study in an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education program, or graduated from a non-accredited program, passed the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination, and been approved by the board office as eligible to apply for a limited intern permit.
  • Foreign graduates must have received a determination of equivalent training and education accepted by the New York State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, independent judgment, and problem-solving ability are required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform pharmacist functions delegated under supervision, including preparing, compounding, and dispensing prescriptions and medications in accordance with applicable state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Assist in preparing and dispensing medications under pharmacist supervision, troubleshoot and resolve issues related to medication dispensing systems, and conduct preparation and dispensing functions relevant to the practice area.
  • Manage medication stock levels, ensure proper storage and organization, rotate stock, remove expired medications, and use and maintain automated dispensing systems and medication delivery methods.
  • Assist pharmacists in retrieving medications from inventory areas as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with pharmacy policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives to improve medication safety and operational efficiency.
  • Accurately document required logs, safety checks, and compliance measures.
  • Assist with controlled-substance management, including verifying safe-handling procedures.
  • Contribute to initiatives focused on medication safety, operational improvements, and clinical enhancements.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with pharmacy best practices.
  • Engage in service-recovery efforts by addressing challenges in medication distribution and patient care.
