What believers are saying

  • September 11-12, 2026 Dehradun launch adds India's first DDD GCC and 150 hires.
  • The center expands into egocentric video, sensors, and robotics datasets for real deployments.
  • DDD's Uttarakhand hiring unlocks cheaper specialized AI labor without metro relocation costs.

What critics are saying

  • OpenAI, Scale AI, and Appen commoditize annotation pricing before DDD's Dehradun ramp finishes.
  • DDD's 800-1,000 headcount target depends on fresh graduates and flawless training execution.
  • If clients internalize data-labeling work, DDD's service revenue and mission model collapse.

What makes digital divide data unique

  • DDD's 2026 Dehradun GCC combines AI data services with impact sourcing.
  • DDD has trained 15,000 workers since 2001 across Cambodia, Kenya, Laos, and America.
  • DDD now serves robotics, physical AI, multimodal annotation, and LLM fine-tuning clients.

Digital Divide Data unveils AI and robotics GCC in Dehradun.

Digital Divide Data unveils AI and robotics GCC in Dehradun. September 12, 2026 15:00 IST Digital Divide Data (DDD), a global social enterprise and provider of AI and data services, has announced the opening of its wholly owned Global Capability Center (GCC) in Dehradun. Focused on robotics, physical AI and generative AI data services, the centre is expected to grow to between 800 and 1,000 employees in the coming months, creating one of Uttarakhand's largest concentrations of specialist AI roles. Operational since 1 August 2026, the center has already onboarded 150 employees across three joining batches. Reaching that scale in roughly six weeks reflects both the depth of graduate and technical talent available in the region and DDD's ability to build and train teams quickly for increasingly complex AI and data operations. The facility is DDD's first GCC in India and marks a significant expansion of its global AI delivery network. The Dehradun center will support specialised work in physical AI and robotics, including the collection and annotation of egocentric video, sensor and multimodal datasets that help machine-learning systems understand and operate in real-world environments. Steve Larson, Chief Operating Officer, Digital Divide Data, said, "India has become a critical center of gravity for enterprise AI, and Dehradun is an important investment in DDD's next chapter. It expands our ability to support clients building increasingly sophisticated AI products, including physical AI and robotics, while strengthening the technical and delivery capability of our global network." Bethuel Jabez, Vice President of Operations, Digital Divide Data, said, "We chose Dehradun because of its depth of talent and its potential to create meaningful technology careers for people in Uttarakhand. With 150 colleagues already onboarded, we are building a center that combines rigorous training, high standards, and real opportunities for people to grow with the work." Capabilities and clients. The Dehradun center supports DDD's broader AI and data-services portfolio, including egocentric data collection, multimodal data annotation, data curation, LLM fine-tuning support, low-resource language services, AI model evaluation, and data preparation and validation. These capabilities underpin the development and improvement of AI models across text, image, video and other multimodal formats. Located at Doon IT Park, SIIDCUL, the center provides the enterprise-grade infrastructure, security and delivery environment required to support global engineering and technology teams with AI model training services from India. Building technology careers in Uttarakhand. The center also extends DDD's impact sourcing model into India. Hiring in Dehradun is focused on fresh graduates and local candidates: DDD selects for aptitude and potential rather than prior experience, then puts every recruit through structured induction and role-specific training before they begin live production work. Founded in 2001, DDD has used this approach to help more than 15,000 people build careers across the United States, Cambodia, Kenya and Laos, with 95% of its workforce coming from economically and socially marginalized backgrounds. Dehradun brings that model to a state where high-end technology employment has historically been limited, giving graduates access to advanced AI work without relocating to a metro.

Digital Divide Data's big AI bet is not just on technology, but talent.

Digital Divide Data's big AI bet is not just on technology, but talent. New Delhi [India], September 11: Artificial intelligence is moving past chatbots into robotics and autonomous systems, and the work behind it is changing with it. Building these systems now demands more specialised data, more rigorous training, and people who can judge how AI behave in situations no one can fully script in advance. That shift is also changing where companies go looking for AI talent. India's established technology hubs remain central, but a growing number of companies are looking beyond them for younger talent that can be trained into specialised roles. The timing matters: global AI spending is projected to hit $2.59 trillion in 2026, up 47% on last year, while the data-labelling market, worth around $20 billion in 2025, is set to more than double by 2030. The opportunity here isn't just staffing up with people who can work alongside AI, it's building the capability base for the next generation of AI systems. That is the bet Digital Divide Data (DDD) is being replaced with its new Global Capability Centre in Dehradun. "India has become a critical center of gravity for enterprise AI, and Dehradun is an important investment in DDD's next chapter. It expands our ability to support clients building increasingly sophisticated AI products, including physical AI and robotics, while strengthening the technical and delivery capability of our global network," said Steve Larson, Chief Operating Officer, Digital Divide Data. Operational since August 1, the centre has already onboarded 150 employees across three batches, with plans to scale to 800-1,000. Its mandate spans robotics, physical AI, generative AI, data curation, model evaluation and AI data preparation. DDD picked Dehradun for its pool of young talent and its network of universities and technical institutions, as well as the chance to create technology careers locally - evaluating and passing over Noida, Jaipur and Lucknow along the way. Recruitment has centred on fresh graduates, and the company expects that base to grow substantially as the centre scales. New hires go through two to four weeks of foundational training followed by client-specific training, with a path into quality assurance, supervisory, technical, client-facing and leadership roles. "We chose Dehradun because of its depth of talent and its potential to create meaningful technology careers for people in Uttarakhand. With 150 colleagues already onboarded, we are building a center that combines rigorous training, high standards, and real opportunities for people to grow with the work," said Bethuel Jabez, Vice President of Operations, Digital Divide Data. From delivery centre to centre of excellence DDD's ambition extends past running another delivery centre. Over the next three years, it plans to build out the Dehradun operation into a full centre of excellence, with capabilities spanning engineering, solution development and complex, client-facing AI work. Robotics is one proof point. Teams at the centre run egocentric data collection using VR headsets and specialised cameras, capturing hand movement, angle, grip and pressure. The stakes in some of these works are higher than a chatbot getting a response wrong. DDD is also reaching into local colleges, bringing in students from their third year onward. It's an extension of the company's impact-sourcing model, which it says has created more than 15,000 careers since 2001, with 95% of them for people from economically or socially marginalised backgrounds. Dehradun, in other words, isn't just a new address for DDD. It's a bet that specialised AI capability can be built from scratch, out of local talent and structured training, rather than imported fully formed from India's established tech cities.
