WinCo Foods acquires 11.59 acre Broadway site in Tucson for $18 million. TUCSON, ARIZONA (Aug. 27, 2026) - WinCo Foods LLC has acquired an 11.59-acre commercial property at 5205 E. Broadway Blvd. and adjoining parcels in Tucson for $18 million, a transaction that could position the employee-owned grocery chain for its first Tucson location. WinCo currently has no stores in Tucson, and the company has not disclosed its plans for the property. WinCo Foods LLC purchased the three-parcel assemblage from Sunbelt Stores Co. LP for approximately $1.55 million per acre, or $35.65 per square foot of land. The property contains approximately 504,976 square feet of land and 119,901 square feet of existing improvements. The assemblage includes property at 5205 E. Broadway Blvd., 99 N. Beverly Avenue and adjoining Broadway frontage near Craycroft Road. Existing improvements contain approximately 107,825 square feet, 6,026 square feet and 6,050 square feet. Current tenants include Angry Crab Shack and Pei Wei Asian Kitchen. Edward Beeh of SRS Real Estate Partners represented WinCo in the acquisition but declined to discuss the buyer's intent for the property. While WinCo has not announced plans for the Tucson property, the size and configuration of the site are consistent with other locations the Boise, Idaho based grocer has selected for recent new store prototypes. WinCo has increasingly developed stores of approximately 84,000 square feet. A new WinCo that opened in Klamath Falls, Oregon, in 2026 contains 84,000 square feet, while plans for a new Walla Walla, Washington store also call for an approximately 84,000 square foot supermarket with 430 parking spaces. Closer to home, WinCo has signed a purchase agreement for property at 19th Avenue and Baseline Road in South Phoenix for another approximately 84,000 square foot store that will anchor a larger mixed-use development. Construction on that project is anticipated to begin in 2027. The 11.59-acre Tucson acquisition provides considerably more land than would be required for the store building alone, allowing room for parking, loading, circulation and potentially additional retail pads or shops. WinCo has not confirmed that a grocery store will be developed at the Broadway property. The company says it does not comment on possible or future locations until a new store has been officially approved and scheduled to open. WinCo also maintains an in-house real estate team that scouts potential locations rather than accepting unsolicited site proposals. Founded in 1967, WinCo operates more than 140 employee-owned stores and employs more than 20,000 people. The warehouse style grocer is known for its large stores, bulk food departments and low-price format. The Broadway acquisition places WinCo in one of Tucson's established retail corridors, near Park Place and the Williams Centre employment and commercial district. Whether the company redevelops the property for a new WinCo store has not yet been announced, but the combination of the buyer, acreage and WinCo's recent development pattern makes the transaction one to watch.

WinCo Foods to open Burlington location. BURLINGTON - A WinCo Foods supermarket is set to open in the building that previously housed Burlington Coat Factory and Kmart at Cascade Plaza in Burlington. In a Friday Facebook post, WinCo said the new store has no estimated opening date yet, but it will post progress updates on the company's social media accounts. The store will be employee-owned and open 24 hours a day. WinCo has not posted job openings yet, but its Facebook post says it typically posts them on the company's website two to three months before the store opens. Wages at the Burlington location have not been posted either; however, available positions at WinCo's Bellingham and Marysville locations start at hourly wages 20 cents above minimum wage. But some in Butte are optimistic, as construction has started on a major grocery store here and there are new changes to the old relic. "We're excited about that, and we're glad to see the construction is kicking off and getting moving," Butte Chief Executive J.P. Gallagher said. A construction crew began tearing out the foundation of what once was the north end of the mall to make room for a new WinCo Foods grocery store. Dickerhoof Properties purchased the mall in 2024 sold just over 9-acre north end site to Winco last year. Riddles Jewelry and Maurices are the only remaining tenants, but Maurices reports business has been going well under the mall's new ownership. "Loving it, they really like it. We've gone from the bottom to the top; it's been great," Edden said. Construction on the WinCo Foods and the mall redesign is expected to continue into next year. Meanwhile, other news developments, such as the Cornerstone Plaza, continue to appear off Harrison Avenue. "We think we're going to see more as the summer progresses and as we see people looking to locate in our community," Gallagher said.
