Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree in Information Technology or a related field is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience with Windows Server administration, network troubleshooting, and systems support is required.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, Domain Name System, Voice over Internet Protocol, and network protocols such as Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is required.
  • Familiarity with system monitoring, backups, security, and endpoint management is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The candidate must be able to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • The candidate must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems; North Slope Borough institutions and organizations; or Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
  • The candidate must be able to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
  • The candidate must be able to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • The candidate must be able to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.
  • The candidate must meet the stated physical requirements, including lifting or moving up to 40 pounds and performing required standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, and vehicle-driving activities.
  • The candidate must be able to work indoors in the stated environmental conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain local area network and wide area network infrastructure, wireless systems, servers, access points, and endpoint devices.
  • Deploy, configure, and monitor servers, storage systems, and network devices to ensure availability and performance.
  • Manage and maintain Active Directory, group policies, Domain Name System, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, and related services.
  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support to end users and resolve escalated issues.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot user accounts, system permissions, shared resources, and email accounts.
  • Ensure that information technology security practices are consistently followed across systems, networks, and cloud services.
  • Track and maintain information technology assets, including computers, laptops, printers, and network equipment.
  • Research and recommend hardware and software upgrades, standardization, and technology improvements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for network architecture, system configurations, and license compliance.
  • Participate in information technology planning, purchasing, and budgeting in coordination with the IT team.
  • Assist in administering Voice over Internet Protocol systems, surveillance cameras, and cloud-based platforms such as learning management systems and email.
  • Collaborate on special projects assigned by the IT Manager or Analyst.
  • Provide weekly system performance reports and participate in information technology policy and procedure development.
  • Stay current with industry trends through forums, training, and peer networking.
  • Support Iñupiaq cultural integration and engage respectfully in a multicultural work environment.
  • Perform specialized projects and other related duties as required.
  • Comply with College policies, procedures, administrative directives, and applicable state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field is preferred.
  • Three to five years of IT experience in an educational or enterprise setting is preferred.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, Cisco Certified Network Associate, or equivalent are preferred.
  • Experience with Juniper switches, Windows Server 2019–2025, virtualization, and cloud platforms is preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license is preferred.
