This candidate will join a well-funded, fast-growing technology startup with the unique opportunity to help build out a critical function for the company.
The Controller will be a critical component of our finance team, responsible for managing the entirety of our accounting operations. This includes the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
What you will do:
- Oversee all accounting operations, including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, and tax compliance. Ensure the accounting department is structured effectively to support the company’s growth and operational needs.
- Spearhead the month-end close process to ensure the timely, accurate, and efficient closing of the company’s books, coordinating with departments to gather data, review entries, and enforce deadlines.
- Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process with external auditors.
- Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements regarding finances and taxation. Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Research and resolve accounting issues including evaluation and implementation of new accounting pronouncements to ensure US GAAP compliance.
- Lead the evaluation and implementation of new financial technologies and systems to support scaling operations.
- Design, implement, and oversee robust internal controls and financial policies to safeguard assets, improve operations efficiency, and reduce financial risks. Continuously assess and refine financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting.
- Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the company’s financial status.
What we look for:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
- At least 7 years of accounting and finance experience, preferably in a fast-growing SaaS or tech environment.
- Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain partnerships with senior management, external advisors, and audit firms.
- Superior time management skills; ability to influence and lead others, and manage priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
