Requirements
  • A minimum high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • Two to three years of specialized experience in ammunition tracking, hazardous materials warehousing, or military arms room accountability is required.
  • Prior experience as a Marine Corps Ammunition Technician (MOS 2311), Logistics Specialist (MOS 3043), Navy Aviation Ordnance man (AO), or Logistics Specialist (LS) is required, with demonstrated ability to follow complex safety procedures.
  • One to two years of experience handling industrial hazardous materials, chemical storage, or commercial explosives is required.
  • Enrollment in the Personnel Reliability Program is required.
  • Familiarity with military supply systems, inventory control software, and material handling equipment is required.
  • Completion of Department of Defense-approved ordnance courses such as AMMO-45 and AMMO-64 is required.
  • Formal instruction in Department of Defense or Department of Transportation HAZMAT regulations is required.
  • Ability to pass annual explosives-handler medical surveillance exams, including vision, color-differentiation, audiogram, and heavy weight-bearing tests, is required.
  • Ability to pass initial and annual physical exams, including vision, hearing, and lifting tests, is required.
  • Ability to pass initial and random ongoing urinalysis screenings under the federal drug-free workplace program is required.
  • Written and oral communication abilities commensurate with the role are required.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is required.
  • Ability to understand, speak, read, and write English is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels, government representatives, and outside contacts is required.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team is required.
  • The position requires current Secret-level security clearance and U.S. citizenship.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and walk for prolonged periods, and periodically twist, bend, and squat is required.
  • Ability to work on-site and wear required personal protective equipment is required.
  • Active or clear eligibility for a state Commercial Driver’s License with Hazardous Materials X endorsement is required.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain strict inventory control, physical security, and precise data tracking of explosive ordnance.
  • Maintain physical custody of Class 1 explosives and ensure complete stockpile accountability while maintaining earth-covered magazine safety standards.
  • Execute cyclic, sensitive-item, and wall-to-wall physical inventory counts of ammunition, missiles, explosives, and pyrotechnics by lot number and serial number.
  • Perform daily data entry and asset tracking within the Ordnance Information System or Retail Ordnance Product Line to ensure electronic inventory matches physical stockpiles.
  • Receive and store explosive items inside secure Earth-Covered Magazines, arranging assets according to Net Explosive Weight limits and explosive compatibility matrices.
  • Track ammunition physical conditions in real time, segregating and documenting suspended, unserviceable, or deteriorated ordnance for inspection.
  • Audit shipping documents, ammunition turn-in slips, and issue vouchers for compliance with Naval Supply Systems Command P-805 guidelines.
  • Inspect incoming ordnance shipments for seal integrity, hazardous-material placarding, and matching alphanumeric manufacturing codes.
  • Operate specialized spark-enclosed Type EE and explosion-proof Type EX material-handling equipment to move ordnance inside storage spaces.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced Navy or Department of Defense certification in AMMO-62, AMMO-76, or an equivalent Center for Ordnance Training program.
  • Demonstrated mastery of NAVSEA OP 5 standards and ability to build localized Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Master Material Handling Equipment operator status specializing in explosive-rated Type EE and Type EX assets.
