Requirements
  • Actively enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college or university seeking a degree in Political Science, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Languages, or a related field of study.
  • Prior experience utilizing computer database programs to retrieve and manipulate information, as well as word processing experience.
  • Prior customer service experience with an emphasis on heavy contact with both the public and all levels of professionals, both face-to-face and by telephone.
  • Successful completion of an employment background check, including an NCIC criminal check.
  • Able to communicate effectively using the English language, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of multi-line telephone equipment.
  • Basic understanding of word processing software and database concepts.
  • Understanding of office methods, rules, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with employees and other contacts.
  • Tact, discretion, and professionalism when dealing with members of the public.
  • Ability to handle stress.
  • Physical presence in the office is required.
  • Ability to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift multiple files and file boxes weighing up to 15 pounds as necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Communicate with attorneys, client services coordinators, clients, and other County agencies concerning Public Defender clients, including investigation of cases and client mitigations.
  • Maintain a calendar of significant dates and statistical records regarding the number of clients aided by CSC staff.
  • Correspond with the necessary information for representation of individuals deemed eligible for Public Defender representation.
  • Observe and assist in the investigation of client cases.
  • Observe and assist in preparing client mitigation reports completed by CSC staff.
  • Prepare computer-generated forms and correspondence necessary for representation of Public Defender clients, specifically involving language interpretation.
  • Operate office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, and paper shredders.
  • Answer telephone calls and direct questions to the appropriate person.
  • Assist Client Services Coordinator personnel as necessary.
Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish.
  • Microsoft Word experience.
