Requirements
  • Earned PhD in Textile, Apparel Design & Merchandising or a related area.
  • Established college-level teaching record as a graduate student, instructor, or above.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship and participation in juried exhibitions.
  • Ability to obtain external funding.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence and graduate and undergraduate-level advising.
  • Service consistent with the appointment.
  • All candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
  • A satisfactory pre-employment background check is required as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume or curriculum vitae, university transcripts, three professional references, and a portfolio.
Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including courses that may involve draping, collection development, Optitex Pattern Software, Adobe Creative Suite, Clo-3D, digital textile design, and computerized knitting systems.
  • Develop an independent and collaborative research program in textiles, apparel design, and merchandising, with an emphasis on apparel design technology in the apparel industry.
  • Acquire external funding for scholarship and disseminate research findings.
  • Participate in juried exhibitions.
  • Advise and recruit undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Maintain professional involvement in the community and membership in appropriate professional or academic organizations.
  • Develop industry partnerships.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three years of service is preferred for consideration at the Associate Professor rank.
  • Ability to teach a variety of courses within the Textile, Apparel Design and Merchandising curriculum, including draping, fashion illustration, collection development, and research methods.
  • Proficiency with current industry software and technologies, including Adobe Creative Suite, Optitex, computerized knitting systems such as Shima Seiki, and Clo-3D.
  • Industry experience.
  • Professional involvement in the community.
  • Membership in appropriate professional or academic organizations.
  • Ability to develop industry partnerships.
