About the job
- A Master of Science degree from an ASCEND-accredited program and supervised practice are required.
- Extensive knowledge and practice of enteral and parenteral nutrition management are required.
- Commission on Dietetic Registration Registered Dietitian certification or Registered Dietitian eligibility is required.
- The employee must be licensed in the State of Illinois within six months of hire.
- Certified Nutrition Support Clinician certification is required.
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required, and only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross are accepted.
- The employee must be able to work at least one evening per week for outpatient clinics.
- Provide medical nutrition therapy for children with chronic diseases in inpatient and outpatient settings, including premature infants and children with cerebral palsy and diabetes.
- Manage nutrition for the inpatient and outpatient pediatric chronic disease population.
- Review charts and gather nutrition data, obtain nutrition histories, assess anthropometric and laboratory data, evaluate feeding ability, growth history, diagnoses, and drug-nutrient interactions, and provide appropriate instruction.
- Obtain feedback on teaching and questions, provide literature and educational materials, plan follow-up, and document assessments and recommendations in accordance with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Monitor growth and weight changes, intake, history, and laboratory data; identify feeding obstacles; and reassess diet-order appropriateness.
- Prepare and present team meetings and clinical huddles, participate in family-centered rounds and family meetings, and contribute to discharge goals, plans, and education.
- Create nutrition education materials; orient residents, medical students, and nurses; deliver core curriculum lectures, parent training, and grand rounds.
- Request and interpret laboratory tests, monitor hydration and electrolyte status, consult with nutrition and medical staff, write orders, and follow new or home total parenteral nutrition therapy.
- Communicate with external specialty teams for gastrointestinal and intestinal rehabilitation programs.
- Participate in outpatient chronic disease clinics, including telehealth visits, and complete nutrition assessments.
- Ensure diet orders are correct, establish diet restrictions, monitor accuracy, assist with complex or restricted-diet menu selections, plan diabetic menus and snacks, calculate special infant formulas and supplementation, and troubleshoot feeding problems and food preferences.
- Certified Nutrition Support Clinician certification is preferred.
- Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition certification is preferred.
- Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist certification or eligibility is preferred.
- Two years of pediatric experience is preferred.
