Requirements
  • For MHP A, a Master of Arts or Master of Science in Health Physics or a related science with 1–2 years of experience, or a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science with 3 years of experience.
  • For MHP B, a Master of Arts or Master of Science with 3–5 years of experience, or a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science with 5–7 years of experience.
  • Ability to develop and implement radiation safety programs involving radioactive materials in research and clinical areas.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and industry radiation protection regulations and standards.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret regulations, identify problems, analyze issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to write and update standard operating procedures and policies.
  • A cover letter and resume or curriculum vitae are required.
  • Background checks may be required after a conditional job offer.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, direct, and implement policies and procedures for using radioactive materials in research and clinical areas.
  • Review and incorporate government and industry radiation protection standards to ensure University compliance and worker safety.
  • Interact with research and clinical staff to ensure proper equipment function and security and maintain patient safety.
  • Act as a resource for principal investigators and Authorized Users.
  • Investigate accidents and provide training.
  • Lead small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Supervise health physics technicians, conduct performance evaluations, and assign work during rotations to assigned areas.
  • Assist with the hiring process for new staff.
  • Evaluate and interpret regulations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry programs and maintain radiation doses as low as reasonably achievable.
  • Write and update standard operating procedures and policies for assigned areas to reflect regulatory and best-practice changes.
