Accounting Intern

Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking an Accounting Intern in St. Joseph, MO to support our accounting team with day-to-day financial operations across multiple companies in our organization.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in job cost accounting within a professional setting. Build your technical accounting skills and gain real-world exposure to job costing, financial reporting, and month-end close processes in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

The intern will participate in a variety of accounting functions across the organization, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, job cost accounting, and month-end close.

The ideal intern will be detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to learn, with a foundation in accounting principles and a willingness to take on a variety of tasks in a collaborative team environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with processing accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes.
• Assist with job cost accounting and tracking project costs against budgets.
• Assist with data entry and maintenance of accounting records in the accounting/ERP system.
• Support internal and external audit requests by gathering and organizing documentation as needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and procedures.
• Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
• Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with accounting or ERP software is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
• Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
• Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
