About the company

Foundation Alloy designs advanced metals using patented elemental selection algorithms to precisely control phase, grain boundaries, and microstructure. These algorithms enable new metal classes with superior properties, produced at scale by powder metallurgy for high-strength, defect-free parts. Their refractory alloy promises triple hardness versus the market leader and full density in under six hours due to a sintering-accelerating transient phase, usable on standard furnaces. The company aims to drive a broad industrial shift toward high-performance, energy-efficient metals for aerospace, advanced propulsion, and power generation, at competitive prices and lead times.

What believers are saying

  • June 16, 2026 Series A raised $22 million from Voyager Ventures and strategic investors.
  • The new 36,000-square-foot Massachusetts facility starts this summer, expanding commercial capacity.
  • Kanematsu will distribute materials across Japan and Southeast Asia, widening near-term demand.

What critics are saying

  • Pilot-to-tons-per-week scaling by 2027 is aggressive; delays burn the June 2026 Series A.
  • Molyclast faces entrenched refractory competitors and qualified-supplier inertia in aerospace and defense.
  • If Massachusetts output slips, Foundation Alloy lacks cashflow before industrial customers switch suppliers.

What makes Foundation Alloy unique

  • MetalsFIRST avoids melting, giving Foundation Alloy tighter microstructure control than conventional metallurgy.
  • Jake Guglin is building a vertically integrated metals company, not just alloy design software.
  • Kanematsu partnership and Re:Build cell give immediate manufacturing and distribution reach.

Foundation Alloy raises $22M to scale metals platform.

Foundation Alloy raises $22M to scale metals platform. Foundation Alloy has secured $22 million in Series A funding to expand its solid-state metallurgy platform and increase production of advanced alloys in the United States. The investment will support a new manufacturing facility in Massachusetts, additional production capacity in New Hampshire, and international distribution into Asia. CEO Jake Guglin summed up the company's next phase with a simple message: the funding is intended to "fund the factory, not the lab." The focus now shifts from proving the technology to producing advanced materials at commercial scale. The funding round was led by Voyager Ventures, with participation from Trust Ventures, Yamaha Motor Ventures, America's Frontier Fund, Overlap Holdings, Material Impact, Engine Ventures, El Cap, and Kanematsu Corporation. Foundation Alloy plans to open a 36,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Massachusetts while adding another modular production cell through its partnership with Re:Build Manufacturing in southern New Hampshire. A new agreement with Kanematsu Corporation will distribute the company's materials across Japan and Southeast Asia. The expansion is expected to increase production from pilot-scale output today to tons of material per week by 2027, representing a hundredfold increase in manufacturing capacity. Unlike conventional metallurgy, which relies on melting metals at extremely high temperatures, Foundation Alloy's MetalsFIRST platform produces engineered alloys through a solid-state process. The company says this approach provides greater control over material properties while shortening production cycles and opening opportunities for alloy compositions that are difficult to achieve through traditional melt-based manufacturing. Current products include the Molyclast family of molybdenum alloys used in hot forging, die casting, and other high-temperature applications. Development is now expanding into stainless steels, tool steels, and other specialty iron-based alloys, with customer pilot programs already underway. The company said its materials are currently being evaluated by manufacturers across North America, Europe, and Japan. Hiring is underway across production, engineering, and commercial teams as Foundation Alloy prepares to expand manufacturing capacity over the coming year.

Foundation Alloy raises $22M to scale production of metals forged without heat for drones and watches

Foundation Alloy, a startup that produces alloys by mechanically processing metals rather than heating them, has raised $22 million to scale up production. The company's super metals are being developed for applications in military drones, luxury watches and chef's knives. The funding will support expanded manufacturing of Foundation Alloy's materials, which are created through mechanical beating rather than traditional thermal metallurgy processes.

Powerus raises $30M from Unusual Machines for US-made drones

Powerus, a defence company manufacturing drones for high-risk applications, has raised $30 million from Unusual Machines, co-founder Brett Velicovich told Axios exclusively. The funding comes as supply-chain control and production capacity have become critical priorities for drone manufacturers. Defence buyers are increasingly seeking systems that can be produced at scale without relying on Chinese components. The investment reflects growing demand for domestically manufactured drones as national security concerns drive procurement decisions towards US-made alternatives.
