Requirements
  • The position requires the ability to work all shifts and weekends as needed.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel are required.
  • Intermediate or higher experience with word processing and spreadsheet applications is required.
  • Intermediate or higher experience with Internet search engines is required.
  • A typing speed of at least 40 words per minute and ten-key-by-touch proficiency are required.
  • A valid California driver's license is required.
  • The ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations is required.
  • The ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals is required.
  • The ability to present information and respond to questions from laboratory staff, managers, clients, and customers is required.
  • The ability to calculate figures and amounts, including proportions and percentages, and apply basic algebra and geometry is required.
  • The ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions is required.
  • The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions is required.
Responsibilities
  • Learn the theory and application of analytical test methods, standard operating procedures, and equipment operation through an ongoing training program.
  • Calibrate, standardize, and operate laboratory instruments for routine laboratory analyses using pipetting, titrating, colorimetric methods, a pH meter, balance scales, spectrophotometer, gas chromatograph, evaporator, distillation apparatus, refractometer, turbidimeter, flame photometer, high-performance liquid chromatography, hydrometers, and other equipment.
  • Test raw materials, in-process samples, and manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
  • Record test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used; prepare graphs and charts as necessary.
  • Perform microbiological tests.
  • Perform plant sanitation and environmental monitoring tests.
  • Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Follow Good Laboratory Practices, laboratory sanitation procedures, and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Cooperate with the Lab Manager and Quality Control Lab Supervisor to solve problems.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Enology, Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field is preferred.
