Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • An associate degree in a vocational field and/or vocational training in electrical, mechanical, architectural engineering, refrigeration, heating and cooling, or plumbing is preferred.
  • Must hold any license required under applicable standards, codes, and labor laws.
  • Must be able to maintain compliance with OSHA and fire regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, operate, and document a practical preventive maintenance program.
  • Maintain safe operating and fire-prevention practices.
  • Investigate mechanical breakdowns and machinery or equipment failures to determine their causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Repair emergency breakdowns as quickly as possible.
  • Advise the Administrator about building wear and tear and needs for cleaning or deodorizing furniture and carpeting.
  • Participate in preparing the annual repair budget and report budget-control problems to the Executive Director.
  • Inspect, maintain, and test fire alarms and emergency systems according to established policies and procedures, and maintain records of test results.
  • Maintain heating and cooling systems in proper working condition, inspecting them before seasonal changes for loose wires, broken lines, leaks, and other issues and pre-starting systems to confirm proper operation.
  • Maintain repair logs and provide timely corrective action.
  • Maintain drains, access areas, grease traps, waste areas, and mechanical rooms.
  • Assist with departmental staffing, complete employee performance evaluations, and make recommendations concerning wage and salary adjustments, hiring, termination, and transfers.
