Requirements
  • Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts Registered Nurse license.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • A minimum of three years of medical/surgical nursing care experience.
  • Proven leadership and project management experience and skill.
  • Effective verbal communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Basic knowledge of quality-improvement techniques.

Responsibilities
  • Perform utilization review and discharge planning for inpatient admissions.
  • Apply InterQual, AEP, and other clinic-approved review criteria to determine the appropriateness of inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Use clinical expertise to determine the appropriate level of care and lead the healthcare team in selecting safe hospital or alternative care options.
  • Collaborate with Community Case Managers regarding medically fragile and high-risk patients admitted to the clinic.
  • Identify delay days and notify the Team Leader.
  • Report serious occurrences and sentinel events to Risk Management.
  • Work with patients and families to facilitate post-hospital care and develop plans addressing short- and long-term needs.
  • Manage observation-status patients accurately by working with physicians to ensure appropriate utilization.
  • Participate in the department's weekend, holiday, and beeper rotations as needed.
  • Support service-line activities related to utilization and quality management.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of clinical pathways.
  • Adhere to insurance, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and facilitate patient discharge with nursing, social work, and other healthcare-team members.
  • Facilitate timely patient access to post-acute care services with the Post Acute Care Coordinator.
  • Participate in hospital or medical committees representing patient issues and department functions, including case management, utilization, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Incorporate organizational guiding principles, mission, and goals into daily activities.
  • Comply with clinic policies and departmental behavioral expectations.
  • Maintain courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
  • Meet customer-service standards and address patients' and customers' needs.
  • Participate in departmental and interdepartmental quality-improvement activities.
  • Successfully complete mandatory education.
  • Perform other duties as needed or directed to meet departmental needs.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
