Requirements
  • Hands-on experience with the design of scientific instrumentation
  • 3+ years experience and/or certification in computer assisted drawing (CAD) software
  • Expertise in materials chemical compatibility and generating designs for machining and additive manufacturing
  • Experience with engineering of fluid handling systems
  • Experience with electrical engineering and incorporation of electronic sensors in scientific instrumentation
  • Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field
  • 3+ years experience in industrial and/or research engineering industry
  • Strong self-starter and independent thinker with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Eager to work in a fast-paced, technical setting
Responsibilities
  • Design and realize components and systems for materials research instrumentation
  • Contribute mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering solutions to the design of automated instruments
  • Collaborate and contribute to software and robotic engineering efforts within the automation team
  • Utilize 3D printing, laser scribing, etc. capabilities for rapid prototyping
  • Coordinate fabrication of custom components with external vendors
  • Assess and report safety and quality control aspects of lab's automated instrumentation
  • Work across multiple instruments and experiment workflows
  • Help realize an ecosystem of automated instruments
  • Evolve workflows from manual to autonomous experimentation
