Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least one year of relevant experience is required.
  • Certification or training in medical assisting, such as Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant certification, is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification is preferred, or the candidate must be willing to obtain it.
  • Excellent computer literacy and typing abilities are required.
  • Proficiency using electronic health record systems and medical software is required.
  • Completion of a medical terminology course or one year of clinical experience using medical terminology is preferred.
  • The candidate must be able to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • The candidate must maintain patient confidentiality and follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.
  • The candidate must be punctual and prepared for all shifts and work responsibilities.
  • The candidate must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods; occasionally lift up to 25 pounds; and bend, stoop, or reach as needed.
  • The candidate must frequently use their hands and fingers for patient care and equipment operation and have normal or corrected vision and hearing.
Responsibilities
  • Greet and prepare patients for examinations, ensure their comfort, and collect relevant health information.
  • Assist with physical examinations and provider instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.
  • Assist patients with education about treatment plans, prescriptions, and overall health management.
  • Schedule appointments, handle patient inquiries, and manage insurance documentation.
  • Document patient encounters accurately during office visits.
  • Record patient history, examination findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and provider instructions in real time.
  • Use correct medical terminology, abbreviations, and codes for documentation.
  • Help manage the electronic health record and ensure provider notes are completed and signed promptly.
  • Maintain an efficient and organized exam-room workflow.
  • Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to support seamless documentation.
  • Assist with completing prior authorizations when needed.
  • Welcome patients and visitors, manage check-in and check-out processes, and collect co-payments.
  • Verify insurance, schedule appointments and follow-ups, and submit prior authorization requests.
  • Answer phone calls, route messages, and respond to inquiries.
  • Maintain an organized front desk and ensure Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant recordkeeping.
  • Alert clinical staff appropriately during emergency situations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Students pursuing careers in healthcare, including medicine, nursing, physician assistant studies, or healthcare administration, are preferred.
  • College-level education in health or medical-related fields is preferred.
  • Advanced medical terminology knowledge is preferred.
  • Fluency in a foreign language, especially Spanish, is preferred.
  • Advanced typing and computer proficiency are preferred.
  • Willingness to commit to two or more years of availability is preferred.
