Requirements
  • At least five years of experience as an operating engineer in a hospital or similar facility and an Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrical license for hires after March 1, 2020.
  • For hires before March 1, 2020, at least ten years of experience as an operating engineer in a hospital environment, or an Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrical license with at least five years of operating engineer experience in a hospital or similar facility.
  • A valid driver's license held for at least four years.
  • Demonstrable mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and plant systems analysis skills.
  • Ability to complete continuing education and on-the-job training in operating engineer disciplines.
  • If hired without an Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrical license, enrollment in an LME program and progress toward completing it within three years.
  • Availability to work assigned shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Ability to safely operate all steam plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate HVAC and ventilating equipment.
  • Ability to complete required documentation logs and forms.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment safely and efficiently.
  • A satisfactory driving record, including no more than one accident or moving violation in the past 12 months and no DUII conviction within the past five years.
  • Ability to complete a defensive driving course within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to drive a company-owned vehicle as a Category A driver.
Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain physical plant equipment during assigned shifts.
  • Perform special assignments involving complex electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Assist in training operating engineers on mechanical, electrical, and building management systems used throughout the properties.
  • Evaluate and implement corrective measures, under limited supervision and on personal initiative, to return malfunctioning equipment and systems to specified standards.
  • Safely operate all equipment in the steam plant.
  • Operate HVAC and ventilating equipment.
  • Submit required logs and reports.
  • Complete required documentation logs and forms.
  • Document Confidential Occurrence events.
  • Assist in training newer engineers on procedures and emergency response.
  • Implement policies and procedures during disasters or emergency situations.
