DA Davidson keeps buy rating on MongoDB despite 18.5% plunge after CEO departs for Meta

MongoDB shares rebounded Tuesday after dropping 18.5% the previous day following CEO Chirantan Desai's departure to join Meta Platforms. DA Davidson analyst Rudy Kessinger maintained a Buy rating with a $465 price target, implying over 38% upside, despite calling the exit "very disappointing". Desai had strengthened relationships with enterprise customers and helped secure larger deals. MongoDB brought back Dev Ittycheria as interim CEO whilst searching for a permanent successor. Ittycheria previously led the company from 2014 through 2025. Bank of America analyst Koji Ikeda also kept his Buy rating with a $540 target, noting Ittycheria could provide more stability than typical interim leadership. The departure came just before MongoDB's Investor Day, where management will outline its growth strategy.

MongoDB builds AI Agent Engine with India R&D team.

MongoDB builds AI Agent Engine with India R&D team. Summarize with: New Delhi, Sep 30(APAC Media): MongoDB has launched Atlas Agent Engine, a platform designed to help enterprises move AI agents from testing to production. The company announced the product on September 30 at its Investor Day in New York. The launch also highlights the growing role of MongoDB's India engineering team, which has expanded to around 110 engineers within 18 months. Atlas Agent Engine combines AI agent execution, memory, retrieval and governance in one platform. MongoDB said the system is designed to reduce the need for companies to connect multiple tools for managing AI agents. The platform supports different AI models and frameworks and is designed to work across cloud environments. It also uses MongoDB Voyage AI for embeddings and reranking, while governance features track agent actions and apply enterprise policies. MongoDB's India team is involved in developing key parts of Atlas Agent Engine and MongoDB 9.0. The company said its wider India workforce has crossed 750 employees across Gurugram, Bengaluru and Mumbai. Atlas Agent Engine is currently available in public preview. MongoDB is offering its runtime and memory capabilities on a consumption-based pricing model. The launch comes as enterprises increasingly focus on moving AI agents beyond proof-of-concept projects and into business applications where security, data access, memory and governance are required. MongoDB launches Atlas Agent Engine, Atlas Infinite and MongoDB 9.0 at Investor Day.

MongoDB launches Atlas Agent Engine, Atlas Infinite and MongoDB 9.0 at Investor Day. MongoDB (MDB) launched several new or updated products with a focus on agentic AI, enterprise modernization and faster data delivery times during its Investor Day presentation on Tuesday. The database company released MongoDB 9.0 for general availability today. They also revealed Atlas Infinite, which MongoDB said is its most significant architectural innovation to Atlas in a decade. It is available for public preview. "The growing use of AI agents is causing applications to use and store more data," said MongoDB Chief Products Officer Ben Cefalo. "MongoDB 9.0 hardens the foundation that more than 70,000 customers already trust with extreme performance, making it significantly faster at scale for mission-critical transactional workloads and AI-powered applications. Meanwhile, Atlas Infinite delivers the elasticity, responsiveness, and accuracy that agentic workloads demand, so enterprises never have to stretch legacy architecture to keep up." MongoDB 9.0 delivers up to 35% faster find-one queries, 30% faster update-one queries, two times the throughput on large instances and 20% higher throughput for transactional workloads compared to 8.0, the company said. MongoDB revealed the Atlas Agent Engine was well. This product unifies governance, memory, and retrieval, ending the choice between a stitched-together stack and being locked into one vendor's model and cloud. "Organizations that want to put agents in production are being forced into a false tradeoff: either adopt one vendor's runtime and accept being locked into a model and cloud, or piece together a framework and manage governance and memory on their own," said Pablo Stern-Plaza, Chief Product Officer of AI and Emerging Products at MongoDB. "With the launch of Atlas Agent Engine, that false tradeoff ends today. Enterprises get the real-time context their agents need, with governance and security built in from the start, and the freedom to run any model, any framework, and on any cloud." Finally, MongoDB announced a new partnership with Cognition to help enterprises modernize for AI workloads. Cognition is the creator of Devin, an autonomous AI software engineer. "Even the most ambitious engineering teams spend much of their capacity keeping legacy systems alive," said Cognition co-founder and CEO Scott Wu. "Devin for MongoDB Modernizations solves that pain. Devin does the heavy lifting, rewriting code across the codebase, so customers reach production on MongoDB in weeks instead of years. Engineers can get back to building great software and solving hard problems." MongoDB shares were down 2% by noon trading on Tuesday. MongoDB cratered 18% on Monday after announcing that CEO CJ Desai was leaving, effective immediately, to lead Meta Platforms' (META) new enterprise segment.
