Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Ability to learn the knowledge and skills of the Locksmith trade according to the Apprentice program progression schedule.
- Ability to drive a pick-up truck and learn to use a similar vehicle.
- Ability to work safely and knowledge of the applicable safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Ability to speak and write effectively.
- Skill in using a computer and computerized work order and time and attendance systems.
- Ability to successfully complete an Airports Authority background investigation.
- A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
- Completion of at least one trades course, such as Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, or Automotive Mechanics, in high school, or current enrollment in a degree or certificate program at a trades school accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department of Labor.
- A state driver’s license in good standing.
- Depending on assignment, may be required to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
- An AOA permit is required to operate vehicles airside and landside.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting objects up to 45 pounds and standing for long periods.
- Ability to work around potential hazards common to the airport environment and wear personal protective gear as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency lock, key, or door hardware problems and inspect, repair, install, and maintain lock hardware, keying systems, and related mechanisms.
- Follow up on lost keys to determine whether the core needs replacement to maintain security.
- Prioritize work orders and determine the supplies and inventory required for repairs and projects.
- Maintain keys, tools, supplies, and equipment in an orderly manner.
- Prepare invoices for locksmith services.
- Assist a full-performance Locksmith with door inspections, troubleshooting door-closing problems, and modifying, retrofitting, and repairing commercial doors.
- Use locking-system software to establish and maintain master lock systems with grandmasters, sub-masters, and operational keys in accordance with regulations and requirements.
- Disassemble and repair brands of lock hardware and change locking functions.
- Fabricate parts; repair locks; construct and replace interchangeable cores; cut or punch out new or duplicate keys; and imprint keys with serial numbers.
- Evaluate, redesign, and fabricate door-structure enhancements, including reinforcement panels, gussets, and structural-support brackets.
- Use shop tools, including pneumatic sanders, drills, band saws, welders, and metal-fabrication benders, to provide finished products.
- Ensure that secure hardware complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Install, modify, troubleshoot, and maintain low-voltage locking systems, including electric exit devices, electric strikes, electric mortise locksets, time-delay interface units, electric deadbolts, control switches, step-down power-control panels, and power-transfer devices.
- Work with airport contractors on new lock-related installations and updates.
- Provide appropriate support and exercise judgment on physical-security hardware installations and modifications.
- Support and maintain Airport Electronic Security Key Systems, including Smart Key Access.
- Respond to hold-over and recall requirements for essential services and emergencies such as snow removal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
