Transit Adjudication Bureau Hearing Officer
About the job
- A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in New York State for at least three years.
- Experience adjudicating administrative hearing cases.
- Conduct fair and impartial administrative hearings.
- Review testimony, evidence, and case records.
- Apply the applicable MTA Rules of Conduct and all applicable laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
- Issue timely written decisions and orders.
- Ensure due process and procedural fairness.
- Participate on appeal boards, as assigned.
- Complete duties outlined in TAB Operations Manuals.
- Work a minimum of four days per month, or as otherwise required by operational needs.
- Travel to other MTA locations or external sites as required.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong judgment, attention to detail, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with TABIS, Microsoft Office, Windows, LexisNexis, and related systems.
- Public sector legal experience, particularly within New York City or New York State government.
