Technical Intern

Overview

The Technical Intern -AI will supports i3 in a technical area related to the student’s current area of graduate or undergraduate study, with an emphasis on emerging AI technologies. The intern will learn and apply skills related to their degree while contributing to projects involving autonomous systems such as drones and self-driving vehicles, as well as integration with Department of Defense (DoD) hardware platforms. Work is performed under immediate supervision and provides real-world application of classroom knowledge in AI-driven autonomy, sensor fusion, and secure system integration. 

This internship is for the Summer 2026 timeframe and is located onsite in Huntsville, AL.

Responsibilities

• Experience hands on work experience in support of on-going projects.
• Provide administrative and technical support.
• Deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment by managing time and effort across multiple projects.
• Assist in research and development tasks related to AI-driven autonomy for drones and self-driving vehicles.
• Support integration and testing of AI algorithms with DoD hardware platforms and secure systems
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level degree program in relevant area at an accredited college/university at the time of the internship.
• Required minimum GPA is 3.0.
• 0-5 years of relevant experience.
• Community and/or campus involvement is preferred.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.

• The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Regular i3 hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, however, additional hours may be required on occasion. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
