Requirements
  • An ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical focus is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing is required.
  • Advanced experience performing engineering calculations and designing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping systems is required.
  • Advanced proficiency with applicable mechanical, plumbing, fire, and building codes is required.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a technical and client interface for the mechanical scope of work.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and other internal and external partners to deliver coordinated, constructible designs.
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, labor planning, and scheduling in partnership with the Project Manager.
  • Lead and conduct field surveys of existing conditions and prepare supporting documentation.
  • Identify and resolve non-compliant or complex existing-condition issues during site walks and construction surveys.
  • Develop advanced design narratives, reports, construction drawings, and technical specifications with minimal or no oversight.
  • Provide construction-phase support including requests for information, submittal reviews, punch lists, and progress reporting.
  • Perform technical quality reviews of calculations and documentation and drive overall project quality.
  • Utilize project tools and platforms including Microsoft Office and building information modeling software.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior and mid-level mechanical engineers and designers.
  • Participate in professional development and technical growth activities.
  • Lead advanced mechanical system programming and master planning with support from senior staff, as needed.
  • Lead mechanical design teams through execution of advanced and complex projects.
  • Oversee the mechanical discipline scope of work and budget across all project phases and levels of complexity.
  • Lead design execution across studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
  • Perform or oversee site selection, master planning, load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, commissioning and start-up, design reports, code evaluations, plans, piping and instrumentation diagrams, schedules, hazard and operability reviews, installation details, and equipment and system selection and specification.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting Life Sciences, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or laboratory facilities, or Food & Beverage facilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of good manufacturing practice (GMP) manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design credentials, or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, and OSHA.
  • Advanced experience conducting and leading field surveys and reporting.
  • Advanced experience in plumbing system design.
  • Familiarity with Revit plugins such as Enscape and Unifi.
  • Exposure to computational or parametric workflows such as Dynamo, Grasshopper, and Rhino.
  • Strong cross-discipline coordination and collaboration skills.
  • Advanced coordination experience with construction trade partners, vendors, and manufacturers.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical system issues in design and construction.
  • Ability to develop and deliver internal technical training content.
  • Willingness to travel in support of projects, client development, and training activities.
