Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of experience working within payroll and benefits, utilizing ADP/Pay@Work and EZ Labour.
  • A solid background working with pay and time-and-attendance systems.
  • A solid understanding of year-end processes.
  • Working knowledge of employment standards across provinces.
  • CPA certification is an asset.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong report-writing ability.
  • Strong capability navigating within information systems.
  • Ability to solve problems and recommend solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer focus.
Responsibilities
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for union and non-union employees, including hourly, salaried, and commissioned employees.
  • Investigate and resolve complex pay and system issues.
  • Prepare and submit records of employment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to maintain accurate and current employee records and vacation accruals.
  • Conduct quarterly vacation accrual and reconciliation processes.
  • Process executive benefits, including share options, car-taxable benefits, and directors' fees for Canadian and out-of-country executives and directors.
  • Coordinate, administer, and execute benefits-related activities.
  • Coordinate annual benefits renewal and re-enrollment processes.
  • Administer the pension and RRSP plans.
  • Manage the monthly budget accrual process for the payroll benefits budget.
  • Maintain the HRIS with employee personal and employment information.
  • Set up and maintain employee records, schedules, holiday programs, and benefit accruals in the time-and-attendance system.
  • Manage time-and-attendance reporting, hours imports to payroll, and timecard exceptions.
  • Conduct training on the time-and-attendance system for new employees and act as the system subject matter expert.
  • Reconcile and remit third-party remittances, including WSIB, union dues, pension/RRSP, and benefit premiums.
  • Maintain processes throughout the year to support smooth year-end filing.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Perform routine audits of payroll, benefits, and time-and-attendance outputs to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Respond to and resolve employee inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Prepare employee communications and letters regarding payroll and benefits matters.
  • Keep current with payroll and benefits best practices.
  • Lead projects assigned by the Senior Manager, Payroll & Benefits.
