Requirements
  • Current New Hampshire registered nurse license is required.
  • An Associate of Science in Nursing degree is required.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
  • Graduation from an approved nursing program is strongly preferred.
  • Three to five years of critical care experience is preferred for the Cardiac Cath/Angiography Lab.
  • Basic Dysrhythmia certification is preferred or must be obtained before completing orientation.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale certification is preferred or must be obtained before completing orientation.
  • Specialty certification is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is preferred for critical care registered nurse roles and is required before completing orientation where applicable.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is preferred, with specified completion requirements for Urgent Care, PACU, and Emergency Department pediatric care.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course certification is preferred and required within 18 months of hire for the Emergency Department.
  • Trauma Certified Advanced Resuscitation certification is preferred and required within one year of hire for the ICU and PACU.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute training is preferred or must be obtained within the stated onboarding period.
  • Membership in a professional organization is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Render professional nursing care to patients within an assigned hospital unit in support of medical care and hospital policies.
  • Complete unit-specific competencies and requirements for caring for critically ill patients during orientation and annually as assigned.
  • Participate in quality-improvement planning and processes for the practice area.
  • Complete comprehensive clinical documentation and care plans in the electronic health record, including vital signs, assessments, care plans, and changes in condition.
  • Respond promptly to patient-monitoring alarms.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families during difficult situations.
  • Collect, label, and send ordered specimens to the laboratory according to policy.
  • Participate in unit or organizational committees and councils.
  • Analyze patient assessments and data, communicate findings, document, and implement actions accurately and promptly.
  • Communicate patient information through handoffs, walking rounds, and physician or provider interactions to support continuity and safe care.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment by following established procedures and protocols.
  • Implement patient-safety resources and initiatives and identify and correct patient-care safety issues.
  • Complete hourly rounding in collaboration with Licensed Nursing Assistants for assigned patients.
  • Build respectful relationships by proactively identifying concerns, compliments, and suggestions.
  • Collaborate across units and shifts to resolve conflicts and issues in a timely manner.
  • Consult nurses in other departments and units to draw on expertise in other clinical areas and specialties.
  • Collaborate with providers to complete assessments and perform bedside procedures.
  • Delegate appropriate aspects of care and unit activities to other nursing personnel.
  • Support and mentor new nurses and other disciplines through preceptorship and other methods as requested by department leadership.
  • Participate in peer review while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Participate in DNV survey readiness.
  • Follow organizational Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliance policy.
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping and responsible patient-supply utilization.
  • Respond to emergency situations according to department and role requirements, including Code Blue and rapid-response events.
  • For Emergency Department assignments, triage patients, determine Emergency Severity Index priority, perform focused and reassessment assessments, implement protocol orders, provide care for acute illness or trauma, recognize life-threatening conditions, document admitted or boarding patients, and support patient throughput.
  • For Cardiac Cath and Angiography Lab assignments, manage critical-care medication infusions, conduct pre-procedure history and medication reviews, maintain a sterile field, prepare equipment and supplies, participate in on-call coverage, administer and document procedural sedation, maintain radiation safety, remove arterial and venous sheaths according to guidelines, assist with intra-aortic balloon pump and Impella equipment, assist with Flow wire, Opsens, and intravascular ultrasound procedures, manage intravenous adenosine considerations, and monitor and interpret hemodynamic waveforms.
