- An active Wisconsin Certified Nursing Assistant certification is required.
- No prior experience is required.
- For Wisconsin work locations, Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association and Certified Nursing Assistant certification from the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry are required.
- The role requires constant standing and walking, frequent communication, hearing, lifting or carrying objects weighing 0–25 pounds, reaching, gripping, keyboard use and data entry, and visual ability for near and far distances and color identification.
- The role requires occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, repetitive foot, leg, hand and arm movements, lifting or carrying objects weighing 25–50 pounds, lifting or moving patients, odor detection, and driving.
- Receive patient-care assignments from the registered nurse in charge and initiate delegated tasks within demonstrated competence for the patient age group served.
- Collect and document admission-assessment and reassessment data at specified times, and provide data to the licensed nurse for analysis and validation of the patient’s response to care or treatment and significant changes in condition.
- Relay information through charting and communication with team members.
- Inform the licensed nurse of changes in patient condition or needs, patient complaints, and patient or significant-other educational needs.
- Answer patient calls for help, take vital signs, and monitor patient behavior and physical condition for progress or deterioration.
- Assist with bathing, ambulation, feeding, skin care, personal and oral hygiene, and making occupied and unoccupied beds.
- Perform dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, turning, cough and deep-breathing exercises, catheter care, biological-specimen collection, and measurement and recording of fluid intake and output.
- Prepare patients for discharge and accompany them upon dismissal when indicated.
- Stock and maintain supplies and equipment according to patient-care needs and cost-containment requirements.
- Assist with delegated clerical duties, including answering telephones, relaying messages, transcribing physician orders, and preparing and organizing medical records.
- Orient new patients and significant others to the nursing unit.
- Operate equipment mechanically and manually according to user manuals, recognize common mechanical problems, and initiate appropriate corrective action.
- Perform point-of-care testing according to policies and procedures when assigned.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
