Travelers and Chubb keep 16 cents of every premium dollar, backed by $272B in investments

Travelers and Chubb keep about 16 cents or more of every premium dollar as underwriting profit, making them appealing to growth-minded investors. Travelers posted an underlying combined ratio of 84.1% in the third quarter of 2026. Chubb's ratio was 81.3% in the US, 86.4% abroad, and 80.7% in reinsurance. A ratio below 100% signals a profit. Premiums are paid up front and claims later, so insurers can invest the "float" in between. Travelers' portfolio is worth $100 billion and Chubb's $172 billion. Travelers earned nearly $1.1 billion in investment income in the second quarter, and Chubb more than $1.7 billion. Both trade above their five-year average price-to-book ratios, and each yields just over 1%, so value and income investors may look elsewhere.

Chubb shares up 105% in five years: is the $357.75 price still undervalued?

Chubb shares have returned 105.5% over the past five years, and the stock now trades at $357.75 and 12.3 times earnings. An Excess Returns analysis by Simply Wall St asks whether the insurer's returns on capital justify that price. The model uses a book value of $195.45 per share and a stable earnings estimate of $30.40 per share, based on forecasts from 12 analysts. It puts the excess return at $14.57 per share, with average return on equity of 13.56%. Chubb Wealth recently partnered with Hamilton Lane to widen access to private market investments in Hong Kong. That may add fee income and options for deploying capital. Chubb reported record adjusted net investment income of $1.88 billion on a $175 billion invested asset base.

Vaultik partners with Chubb to offer AI-powered watch and jewellery authentication, valuation and insurance

Vaultik has partnered with Chubb to streamline the process of authenticating, valuing, and insuring watches and jewellery. Through Vaultik's platform, owners can photograph their items and receive AI-powered authentication and valuation results, reviewed by experts at Birmingham Assay Office. Eligible customers can then request insurance quotes from Chubb and purchase coverage digitally within the same application. The collaboration addresses a traditionally fragmented process that typically requires separate appointments for appraisal and insurance. The service is available through Vaultik's Collect App and can be offered by retailers, jewellers, and marketplace sellers. Vaultik currently partners with WhatNot and eBay Live. Vaultik's KYP protocol generates authentication and valuation outputs from photographs, whilst Birmingham Assay Office provides specialist review. Chubb underwrites the insurance coverage for eligible items.
