Responsibilities
  • Interact with an assigned caseload of students each semester to provide informed guidance and support regarding academic success and available resources.
  • Provide academic advising grounded in National Association of Academic Advising practice tenets and appropriate academic advising and student development theories.
  • Advise current and prospective students on course selection, registration, academic planning, career and educational goal-setting, resources, university transition, and retention issues in both group and individual settings.
  • Interpret state, university, and college policies and procedures and maintain accurate records of student contacts.
  • Monitor academic progress and implement intervention strategies for students who receive academic alerts or need assistance maintaining or improving their academic standing.
  • Promote student learning, development, and personal growth to empower self-sufficiency.
  • Provide proactive referrals, timely reminders, and targeted individual and group communications using email, text messaging, and social media.
  • Promote a culture of belonging through university and department initiatives.
  • Manage and coordinate advising projects, events, outreach, and interventions for students.
  • Identify and address individual, organizational, and environmental conditions that foster or inhibit student success.
  • Use EAB Navigate to establish targeted student populations on the caseload for more intensive advising.
  • Use best practices, resources, and tools to identify and provide targeted advising services to students at risk of unsuccessful academic experiences.
  • Collaborate with department, division, university, and other partners to enhance approaches to student recruitment and success.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities.
  • Conduct research on topics within academic advising.
  • Collaborate with university partners on matters affecting student recruitment, success, and retention, and support developmental and university retention initiatives.
  • Comply with state, system, and university policies, regulations, procedures, guidelines, directives, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Complete a criminal history investigation and institutional verification of credentials or other required information as a condition of employment.
