Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Three years of phlebotomy experience.
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard, monitor, mouse, and calculator.
  • Ability to use PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to use fax machines, printers, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to lift, move, stoop, reach, stand, walk, and carry materials and equipment weighing 40 or more pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, rotate normally, stand, and walk for the entire shift.
  • Ability to work various shifts based on departmental needs.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise the operation of the phlebotomy team and oversee day-to-day workflow.
  • Assist with selecting and hiring employees, complete departmental training and orientation, and assign departmental staff.
  • Schedule and adjust staff to meet facility needs while considering staff competency, established standards, regulatory requirements, appropriate supervision, and wage and hour law.
  • Supervise the daily duties and outcomes of the phlebotomy staff.
  • Ensure phlebotomy duties are completed efficiently and prioritize STAT orders, ASAP orders, scheduled orders, and outpatient orders.
  • Print, document, and periodically review pending specimen collection lists throughout each workday.
  • Provide input for staff promotions, salary adjustments, annual performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and terminations based on documented performance.
  • Identify and address outreach quality issues by observing trends and resolving issues with appropriate documentation.
  • Ensure staff are properly trained in specimen types, proper receipt into the laboratory information system, and troubleshooting missing samples and orders.
  • Coordinate health fairs, employee screenings, and low-cost blood screenings offered by the hospital or laboratory.
  • Perform phlebotomist duties as needed.
  • Travel between facilities or buildings when required.
  • Use restricted areas that may contain medications, supplies, and confidential patient information when unsupervised access is required.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree in a healthcare-related field.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Four years of phlebotomy experience.
