Requirements
  • Technical background in communications and signal processing, such as waveform design, detection and estimation, protocol development, or channel modeling.
  • Experience with simulation or analysis tools such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary team environments.
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly in writing and orally.
  • Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher, with possible government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility if required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science and 19 or more years of relevant experience for the Principal Professional level.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science and 14 or more years of relevant experience for the Senior Professional level.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, test, and evaluate advanced signal processing algorithms and communication techniques.
  • Model and simulate communication system physical layer protocols and waveforms.
  • Prototype communication capabilities using software defined radios and open source tools.
  • Contribute to waveform, modulation, and algorithm design for challenging channel environments.
  • Perform system-level analysis, theoretical evaluation, and performance assessments.
  • Document findings, prepare recommendations, and present results to sponsors.
  • Participate in field tests, demonstrations, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across ARL and with government sponsors.
  • For higher-level positions, lead technical tasks or project components.
  • For higher-level positions, conduct feasibility studies and shape program direction.
  • For higher-level positions, provide technical mentorship to junior staff or students.
  • For higher-level positions, contribute to division-level research strategies and initiatives.
  • Travel periodically within and outside the continental United States to support field tests, demonstrations, or sponsor engagements.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with software defined radio development, laboratory or field testing, or data analysis.
  • Programming experience in Python, C++, MATLAB, or similar languages.
  • Experience with wireless, underwater, satellite, or optical communication systems.
  • Experience with communications security, artificial intelligence or machine learning for communications, or network protocol development.
  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
