Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Six years of related work experience are required.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic electronics principles and materials, elements, and products applicable to the specialization is required.
  • Knowledge and skill in applied arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, and the applicable system of measurement are required.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting technical specifications and drawings is required.
  • Skill in fabricating and assembling electromechanical and structural components and equipment from drawings and specifications is required.
  • Skill in setting up and calibrating instruments and preparing equipment for testing is required.
  • Skill in operating job-related equipment according to standard safety practices is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and prepare reports and detailed procedures is required.
  • Ability to use personal computers is required.
  • Ability to lead and train others in technical electronics support work is required.
  • Ability to work around fixed equipment and machinery, manipulate heavy equipment and tools, concurrently manipulate multiple controls, work in hazardous environments and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required; a Maryland Class C or equivalent license with fewer than six points may be required when driving a state vehicle.
  • Candidates must be able to complete employment eligibility verification and provide documents establishing identity and work authorization under federal immigration law.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair utility meters, HVAC, lighting, electrical, building automation, and devices that acquire data from these systems.
  • Review and ensure the operational readiness of new and existing electromechanical systems and complete system checkout as needed.
  • Use computers and mobile devices to program, operate, test, and calibrate electrical and HVAC metering devices used to measure campus energy usage and system performance.
  • Integrate devices, particularly meters, with Building Automation Systems on a campus Ethernet LAN using Modbus RTU and/or BACnet MSTP protocols.
  • Install rigid or electrical metallic tubing conduit.
  • Install equipment and meters.
  • Monitor and check out HVAC systems, lighting, building controls, and lighting controls.
  • Follow sequences for electromechanical systems to confirm proper operation.
  • Document meter setup parameters and maintain work history and the meter calibration database in AssetWorks AIM.
  • Use Building Automation Systems, Microsoft Word, Box, Excel, and email to set up or program meters and demonstrate programming of similar devices.
  • Travel to meetings and project sites on and off campus.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's or associate degree, vocational school education, or related technical education is highly desired.
  • Certification or licensure in HVAC, electrical work, or Building Automation Systems is desirable.
  • Training in utility metering, electronics, steam boilers, HVAC, electrical work, or building automation is desirable.
  • Knowledge of HVAC pneumatic controls is desirable.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices for electrical, steam, natural gas, water, or heating and cooling water utilities is desirable.
  • Training in electrical and electronics work, installation methods, schematics, and wiring, preferably metering, is desirable.
  • Technical education qualifying the person to work with systems at voltages greater than 50 volts is desirable.
  • Training and detailed understanding of at least one metered utility, including electric, steam, thermal energy, or water, is desirable.
  • Ability to use hand tools, electrical testing equipment, and calibration equipment such as volt-ohm meters, amp probes, oscilloscopes, and Field Programming Interfaces is desirable.
