Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in medical coding for obstetrics and gynecology.
  • A nationally recognized coding credential, including CPC, COC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT through AHIMA or AAPC.
  • Understanding of CPT, HCPCS, CDT, and ICD-10 codes and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of medical business and revenue cycle operations.
  • Functioning knowledge of office applications such as Word, Excel, and email.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and concisely with coworkers, clients, patients, and others.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, supervisors, managers, clients, staff, and providers.
  • Ability to multitask independently or with a team while maintaining respect and professionalism.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple responsibilities in a highly organized, efficient, and effective manner.
Responsibilities
  • Accurately assign and appropriately sequence ICD-10 and CPT codes and all applicable modifiers.
  • Contact clients when medical-record documentation is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes.
  • Monitor regulatory and payer changes as they apply to diagnostic and procedure coding.
  • Research and resolve coding-related system edits, payer rejections, and insurance denials.
  • Identify system-edit, payer-rejection, and insurance-denial trends to support client policy and procedure improvement.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding-practice changes through continuing education and resource materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
