Comfort Systems backlog hits record $17.8B as revenue jumps 54% and CFO retires

Comfort Systems (NYSE:FIX) reported third-quarter diluted net income of $13.91 per share on October 23, 2026, as revenue rose 54% year over year. Demand from technology and industrial customers drove the results. The mechanical and electrical contractor's backlog reached a record $17.8 billion. Clients are booking large projects early to secure contractor capacity, which extends timelines by 18 to 24 months and locks in revenue into 2028. The company is expanding modular manufacturing capacity to 6 million square feet, serving data centre customers including a frontier lab and colocation providers. Chief financial officer Bill George is retiring after 30 years. Chief accounting officer Julie S. Shaeff will succeed him. Management expects continued growth through 2027, with strong gross profit margins.

AI data centre suppliers fall despite blowout quarters, shedding over $300B since October

Shares of AI data centre suppliers fell for a second day despite strong results. Bloom Energy said sales rose 138% last quarter and raised its full-year growth outlook to roughly 122%. Comfort Systems said its backlog nearly doubled to $17.8 billion. Since the S&P 500's October 6 record close, companies building and equipping AI data centres are down a median 23%, according to Yahoo Finance calculations. Nvidia is off 11%, while the Big Tech companies funding the build-out are down 5%. A dozen of the biggest builders and power names have lost more than $300 billion in market value. Bloom's cash flow turned negative in the quarter, and its margins lag sales growth. The next test comes Wednesday, when Microsoft, Alphabet, and Vertiv report, followed by Amazon on Thursday.

Comfort Systems USA names Julie Shaeff CFO successor to retiring Bill George in 2027

Comfort Systems USA (NYSE:FIX) said chief financial officer Bill George will retire in 2027. Julie Shaeff, the company's chief accounting officer, will succeed him. Management called the move part of a multi-year succession plan to keep financial leadership steady during the handover. The company reported third-quarter 2026 sales of $3,766.3 million and net income of $489.04 million. It holds a backlog of $14.1 billion and net cash of more than $1.8 billion. Its market value is about $49.2 billion. The early announcement gives the incoming and outgoing finance chiefs a long overlap while the company manages a larger project portfolio.

Comfort Systems USA stock surges 871% in 3 years on $14B AI data centre backlog

Comfort Systems USA, a mechanical and electrical services contractor, has seen its stock surge 77% this year and 871% over three years, driven by its role in AI data centre construction. The company's backlog has grown to $14.06 billion, exceeding projected 2026 revenue of $13 billion. Technology-related revenue, including data centres, now represents 58% of total revenue, up from 40% the previous year. President Trent McKenna noted this substantial increase during a July earnings call. The company's backlog reflects contracted installation and replacement project work, typically lasting under one year. It excludes service work and maintenance contracts, meaning the figures don't fully capture long-term revenue opportunities. The backlog continues expanding as hyperscalers invest heavily in AI infrastructure.
