Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in financial crimes compliance, including Anti-Money Laundering, Global Sanctions, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption, or in model risk management within the financial or professional services sectors, as well as with relevant banking, securities, or insurance regulatory agencies.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, engineering, data science, computer science, information systems, statistics, mathematics, or a related quantitative field of study.
  • A comprehensive understanding of prevalent money laundering schemes and the legal and regulatory framework surrounding Anti-Money Laundering and sanctions, particularly requirements established by FINTRAC, OSFI, OCC, OFAC, and FinCEN.
  • Proficiency in data engineering, analytical research, statistical sampling, and data analysis or database management tools such as SQL, R, Python, or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating, assessing, and enhancing financial crimes compliance programs, including internal audits, compliance testing reviews, model validations, and remediation of identified deficiencies.
  • Experience in auditing, testing, or quality assurance of Anti-Money Laundering and/or OFAC controls and processes.
  • Strong writing skills across reports and presentations, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of technologies and solutions for monitoring and assessing money-laundering risk.
  • Understanding of laws, regulations, and best practices addressing financial crimes.
  • Understanding of banking, insurance, asset management products and services, and related market technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English, including the ability to present complex strategic topics to stakeholders in English-speaking regions of Canada.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with regulated entities to address financial crime issues, including Anti-Money Laundering and Global Sanctions, across all three lines of defense.
  • Support financial-crimes leaders in the financial-services sector with analytical and technology-driven tasks.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of financial crime prevention efforts.
  • Assist with the design, validation, review, optimization, and audit of financial-crime models, including transaction-monitoring, sanctions, customer-risk, statistical, machine-learning, and artificial-intelligence models.
  • Support model tuning, segmentation, and threshold-calibration activities to improve detection accuracy and reduce false positives.
  • Conduct data analysis and remediation, including data mapping, cleansing, and validation, to support system implementation and regulatory reporting.
  • Use data analytics and advanced technologies to test and validate financial-crime systems and models using SQL, Python, R, and other programming languages; perform statistical analyses on samples, interpret results, and summarize findings.
  • Assist in designing and developing assets using intelligent automation and large language models for anti-financial-crime initiatives.
  • Recognize, escalate, and manage engagement risks for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee specific components of engagements, supervise staff-level teams, and provide guidance and training to team members.
  • Provide insights into engagement decisions involving work plans, timelines, budgets, project management, and resource allocation.
  • Apply advanced analytical methodologies to improve financial-crime detection, reduce false positives, and improve reporting.
  • Support clients with technical risk and control reviews and ensure compliance projects align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with compliance, technology, and data specialists to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Prepare client deliverables, including reports, presentations, and dashboards, with clear, accurate, and actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with national and global teams across diverse industries and regulatory environments.

KPMG and EY win $579M UK civil servants training contract despite consultancy spending pledge

The UK Government has awarded a contract worth up to £456 million to KPMG and EY to train civil servants, the Financial Times reported, citing government procurement tracker Tussell. Under the arrangement, the firms will train officials across various skills areas, including AI, between 2026 and 2028. KPMG's share is capped at £319 million, representing almost a quarter of its total UK advisory net sales from last year. EY's portion is worth £137 million, equivalent to around 13% of its UK consulting revenue. The deal is the largest single contract awarded to Big Four companies since Tussell started tracking records in 2012. The previous record was a £322 million deal between the Foreign Office and PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2012.

KPMG barred from Victoria government tenders until October over confidential document misuse

KPMG has been barred from bidding for new government contracts in Victoria, Australia, until at least October, according to the Australian Financial Review. The Big Four firm must also withdraw from current tender negotiations following misconduct involving confidential client documents. The ban stems from KPMG's admission that former chief operating officer Eileen Hoggett improperly stored and shared confidential Lendlease board papers. Victoria joins other Australian jurisdictions, including the Federal Government and several states, in blocking KPMG from tender processes until 30 September. KPMG currently holds Victorian contracts worth A$24 million and participates in broader consortia valued at A$195 million. The firm is implementing job cuts and has already reduced partner pay by 20%. John Sams recently became Australia CEO after Andrew Yates resigned in May.

KPMG becomes OpenAI Elite Partner after building AI supply chain platform for the frontier lab

KPMG has been named an OpenAI Elite Partner following a collaboration in which KPMG built an internal supply chain platform for OpenAI itself. That deployment now serves as the foundation for KPMG's enterprise AI offerings. The partnership centres on "headless" software, where employees stop navigating applications and instead describe what they want done. AI agents interpret requests, coordinate across backend systems, and execute tasks. "You're going to be talking more than you're typing," said Chad Seiler, KPMG's US industry leader for technology, media and telecommunications. The model keeps existing enterprise systems as infrastructure whilst adding an intelligent agent layer on top. KPMG maintains parallel partnerships with other frontier labs, including Anthropic. The firm has integrated OpenAI capabilities into its internal AI tool since 2023.
