Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or General Educational Development credential is required.
  • Relevant health care, customer service, and computer experience is required.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills are required.
  • Proficiency with computers is required.
  • Knowledge and previous experience with medical terminology are required.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge or experience with a hospital registration system are required.
  • Professional conduct when dealing with patients, family members, and co-workers is required.
  • The ability to work well under pressure is required.
  • A typing speed of at least 40 words per minute is required.
  • Two years of experience in a Patient Access Department, physician's office, clinic, or healthcare business office is required.
Responsibilities
  • Book inpatient admissions and ambulatory surgery procedures.
  • Maintain an accurate hospital census.
  • Transfer and discharge patients.
  • Maintain and update the bed-tracking system.
  • Manage hospital beds, make assignments, recommend intra-hospital transfers as necessary, and ensure that patients are placed appropriately.
  • Work closely with the admitting department nurse to ensure optimal patient flow.
  • Maintain the departmental bed control manual in accordance with medical protocols and with guidance from administration, attending physicians, and infection control.
  • Ensure that the census in the hospital computer system is accurate.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous hospital experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience working in the medical field is preferred.
