Huawei Technologies reported a 36% drop in first-half net profit to 23.81 billion yuan ($3.54 billion), whilst revenue rose 9.6% to 467.82 billion yuan. The Chinese technology company attributed the profit decline to rising input costs and increased research and development spending. R&D expenditure jumped 25% to 121.38 billion yuan, representing 25.9% of revenue, as Huawei invested heavily in AI, communications technology and chip capabilities. Higher memory chip prices also affected profitability in its consumer business division. The results reflect Huawei's efforts to reduce reliance on foreign technology following years of US export restrictions. The company said its first-half performance met forecasts but noted its full-year outlook remains under review due to external uncertainty and elevated input costs.
Huawei unveiled the HUAWEI WATCH D3, its next-generation wrist-based ambulatory blood pressure monitor, at the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2026 in Munich, Germany. The device will officially launch on 2 September. The WATCH D3 builds on Huawei's decade-long development in wearable health monitoring, which began in 2014. The company released its first wrist-based blood pressure recorder, the WATCH D, in 2021, followed by the WATCH D2 in 2024. The new device features a lighter design and measures blood pressure at elevated heart rates, including before and after exercise. It has received CE MDR certification in the European Union for single blood pressure measurements, ambulatory monitoring, and exercise-related measurements. The WATCH D3 includes blood pressure measurement reminders for high-altitude environments and sudden temperature changes.
Huawei Cloud launched CodeArts Agent in Singapore on 28 August. The AI coding tool features 16 specialised agents spanning the software development lifecycle, covering requirements analysis, architecture design, coding, testing, issue resolution, and code review. CodeArts Agent supports code generation, software development Q&A, and automated unit test generation for large-scale projects. Huawei introduced a Singapore Early Bird Programme offering eligible enterprise users three months of free access to the Professional Edition. The launch positions Huawei against GitHub Copilot in the enterprise market. Singapore's data-governance rules, including Personal Data Protection Commission guidelines on generative AI use, may influence enterprise adoption. CodeArts Agent forms part of Huawei Cloud's broader developer tools suite and aligns with the company's all-cloud strategy.
