Requirements
  • Candidates must hold a PhD in astrophysics or a related field.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellence in research and teaching.
  • Research excellence must be evidenced by peer-reviewed publications or high-impact contributions, strong endorsements from referees of international standing, and a strong research statement.
  • Teaching excellence must be demonstrated through communication skills, teaching and equity, diversity, and inclusiveness statements, recommendation letters, and, for short-listed applicants, a high-quality colloquium.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in Quebec at the campus where the position is based.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities
  • Develop an independent and externally funded research program of international scope in transient astrophysics, astroparticle physics, and/or multi-messenger astrophysics that complements and strengthens existing departmental research.
  • Teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Share in the administrative responsibilities of the department and university.
  • Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to the department's collaborative, collegial, and inclusive atmosphere.
Desired Qualifications
  • Postdoctoral or equivalent experience is desirable.
  • Research may focus on observations, modelling, simulations, theory, and/or instrumentation.
  • Possible membership in the Trottier Space Institute.

Club M&A and McGill's Dobson Centre launch acquisition programme as $218B in Canadian businesses set for ownership transition

Club M&A Canada and McGill's Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship have opened registration for their first Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition programme. The intensive four-day course, running 27–30 October in Montreal, targets professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs interested in acquiring existing small or medium-sized businesses. The programme addresses a significant succession challenge in Canada. According to the Business Development Bank of Canada, nearly one in five Canadian businesses will undergo ownership transition within five years, representing over $300 billion in business revenue. Marc Deegan, founder of R33 Ventures, will serve as programme director. The curriculum covers developing investment theses, target evaluation, financial and legal considerations, acquisition financing, and post-acquisition transition. Instructors include transaction professionals, lawyers, tax specialists, investors, and entrepreneurs with acquisition experience. Admission is by application, with no prior M&A experience required.
