Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in a health care area, public administration, or a closely related field and EMS training credentials. Additional experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Five years of experience as a field paramedic or an Emergency Management Technician (EMT).
  • Paramedic or EMT certification (State and/or National Registry) current within the last 5 years.
  • Current Washington State Driver's License or have obtained an appropriate accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Develops and approves curriculum, training objectives, and instructional strategies for EMS programs.
  • Sets training goals in collaboration with stakeholders and ensures compliance with legal requirements.
  • Investigates patient care complaints, conducts quality assurance reviews, and researches new protocols and techniques.
  • Collaborates with agencies and programs to address the training needs of the Thurston County Medic One system.
  • Coordinates with Washington State Department of Health for protocol and program approvals.
  • Gathers and analyzes data to support EMS initiatives and improvements.
  • Hires, trains, and manages Medic One Training Coordinators, supporting certification and record-keeping.
  • Manages the training program budget and maintains equipment inventory, recommending updates as needed.
  • Engages with the community through public education, presentations, outreach events, and representing the system on various committees.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience as an Emergency Management Services (EMS) trainer/educator at the paramedic level.
  • Experience as a Senior EMS Instructor/Evaluator.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience in fire services.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with paramedics, EMTs, fire departments, public and private officials, the public and other agency personnel, including hospital staff and administrators.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload. Ability to work in a multi-agency environment.
  • Ability to interpret and understand applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Ability to utilize a personal computer and a variety of software programs.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and complaint resolution procedures.
  • Knowledge of budgeting procedures for public agencies.
  • Knowledge of education theories and techniques, including preparation and delivery of instructional material for adult learners.
