  • ServSafe Certification is required within six months of hire.
  • Must be able to perform frequent standing, reaching, lifting items weighing 40 pounds or less (including occasional overhead lifting), bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, climbing, pushing, twisting, and pulling; standing or walking for 95% of the workday.
  • Must be able to occasionally climb and balance using a step stool.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions, including lifting, keypad entry, chopping, filling, and sealing packaging, and make fast repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
  • Must be able to use both hands to grasp, grip, move, or operate objects or equipment.
  • Must have own transportation, travel to multiple schools within a reasonable geographic area, and maintain a flexible schedule based on work-site needs.
  • Must be able to inventory food and supplies, including fresh, frozen, and dry goods.
  • Must complete all USDA mandatory professional standards training hours annually, as required by position category.
  • Must follow the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan and health department sanitation standards, including ensuring and recording proper cooking and serving temperatures.
  • Must follow menu and recipe instructions, standard recipes, proper portion sizes, and verbal instructions.
  • Must produce and understand regulations regarding food preparation, temperatures, appearance, and portion sizes.
  • Must use kitchen equipment properly, clean equipment properly, and follow safety precautions.
  • Must be able to operate a point-of-sale system and reconcile monies daily for accuracy.
  • Must be able to critically think and solve problems.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, communicate effectively orally and in writing, stay organized and manage time, and read and comprehend written, graphic, and oral instructions in English.
  • Must observe District policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with daily preparation of school lunch and breakfast programs at various kitchen locations based on operational needs, under the supervision of the Area Manager.
  • Promote good community relations among school and community clientele, including Nutrition Services staff, school staff, students, and parents.
  • Receive deliveries and store food and supplies as directed by the supervisor.
  • Participate in and lead training for kitchen staff, participate in PGI classes, and pursue regulatory changes and sustainable solutions.
  • Serve meals daily and ensure compliance with HACCP and health department sanitation standards, including monitoring and recording food temperatures.
  • Assist in preparing, serving, and selling meals in compliance with department regulations; wash, clean, peel, cut, and chop fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat items as needed.
  • Maintain daily meal counts and production records.
  • Set up and clean serving areas for timely student service, including dishwashing and sanitation of workstations.
  • Operate the point-of-sale system and reconcile monies daily.
  • In the Kitchen Manager's absence, manage kitchen opening, closing, cooking, and student meal service as directed by the Area Manager.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
