Requirements
  • Red Seal certification as a mechanic with two years of practical experience in heavy truck repair.
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Possess an inspection license for CDL, CVI, or CN.
  • Complete DOT certification for air brake inspection and adjustment and annual vehicle inspections.
  • Complete all company-provided or company-sponsored technical training and continuing education programs.
  • Be computer literate, able to be trained in software systems, and willing to learn.
  • Meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to company standards.
  • Communicate effectively with others.
  • Follow detailed instructions, work independently, and maintain accurate records.
  • Understand and effectively use repair and parts manuals written in English.
  • Operate any vehicle, equipment, or tools necessary to perform the job.
  • Frequently handle tools and equipment and lift, push, or pull up to 100 pounds.
  • Meet the physical and visual demands of standing, sitting, walking, climbing, balancing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and adjusting focus.
  • Work in conditions involving loud noise, humidity, hot and cold weather, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, and occasional high precarious places.
Responsibilities
  • Safely inspect, maintain, and repair all company-owned or leased vehicles and equipment, including rolling stock, to ensure efficient and safe operation.
  • Provide daily functional direction to mechanics as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment using industry-standard maintenance methods and procedures.
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance records.
  • Schedule and complete preventive maintenance for all equipment within applicable provincial, federal, local, and corporate guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe and clean shop facility.
  • Review D.V.I.R. reports and perform repairs as needed.
  • Provide accurate labor hours required for each product line.
  • Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain and repair heavy diesel, gas, and electrically operated equipment and vehicles.
  • Complete reports and work orders, order parts, and perform other required administrative duties.
  • Assist in reviewing mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedules.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with applicable safety regulations.
  • Use a variety of power and hand tools and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, company policies, procedures, and supervisor directives.
  • Assume the leadership and supervisory role of the Supervisor or Manager when that person is absent.
  • Maintain current technical knowledge through technical manuals and technical training seminars.
  • Attend safety and branch meetings.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

GFL Environmental launches two RNG facilities with OPAL Fuels to power 800 heavy-duty trucks

OPAL Fuels and GFL Environmental have begun construction on two renewable natural gas facilities at landfills in Georgia and Alabama. The projects will convert landfill methane into approximately 15 million gasoline gallon equivalents of RNG annually, enough to fuel roughly 800 Class 8 trucks. The expansion deepens GFL's partnership with OPAL Fuels in decarbonising transportation and building RNG infrastructure. However, the development doesn't substantially alter GFL's near-term investment narrative, which remains focused on integrating past acquisitions, managing high leverage and delivering on 2026 revenue guidance. GFL recently authorised share buybacks of up to 34.7 million shares and increased its dividend by 10%. Analysts project the company's revenue could reach CA$8.6 billion by 2029, implying 8.8% annual growth.

GFL to acquire Secure Waste for $6.4B, adding 80+ facilities across Western Canada

GFL Environmental has agreed to acquire Secure Waste Infrastructure for $6.4 billion, expanding its presence in Western Canada and North Dakota. The deal includes over 80 locations comprising 12 landfills, 55 waste treatment facilities, 12 recycling facilities, 98 injection wells and five transfer stations. Secure shareholders can choose $24.75 in cash, 0.4195 GFL subordinate voting shares, or a combination for each share held. Cash payments are capped at 20% of the total consideration, with GFL shares limited to 80%. GFL founder and CEO Patrick Dovigi said the acquisition will densify the company's Western Canada footprint and enhance its ability to offer comprehensive waste management services. The transaction requires shareholder approval and is expected to close in the second half of 2025.
