About the job
- High school education or equivalent.
- One to two years in a related position with this company or another organization.
- Basic knowledge of customer service principles, food service functions, and restaurant and kitchen operations.
- Ability to use tact and understanding when handling a range of customer service problems, including stressful and highly emotional situations.
- Ability to lift and carry trays, dish racks, and glass racks weighing 20–40 pounds, and push carts, Queen Marys, hotboxes, and portable bars weighing 50–100 pounds.
- Manual coordination to punch buttons, grasp items, and balance and carry trays loaded with food and beverages.
- Ability to bend to lower-level cabinets and lift trays; maneuver in narrow areas and between seated guests; stand continuously while servicing guest functions; and climb approximately 12 steps for 20% of an eight-hour shift.
- Moderate comprehension and literacy to read records and special requests; ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and pay attention to sound and sight details in crowded, noisy situations.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Set up, maintain, and break down breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner buffets safely, and assist guests with food service as needed.
- Read the banquet event order and complete the setup.
- Set tables in the assigned area correctly and uniformly.
- Keep the station neat and clean while serving guests according to established policies and procedures.
- Use proper in-room clearing procedures and tray jacks.
- Break down buffets and other special food-service tables and equipment.
- Assist the Banquet Captain with setting up and breaking down buffets and other special food-service tables and equipment.
- Greet and serve guests according to food-and-beverage service policies and procedures.
- Keep the kitchen and storage areas clean according to management policies.
- Communicate needs and concerns clearly and promptly to the Banquet Captain and/or Manager/Director.
- Complete setup and closing duties, including setting tables with tablecloths, skirting, food, and utensils according to procedures.
- Maintain the buffet table throughout the day, ensure food items and utensils are available on time, and notify the manager or hostess when additional items are needed.
- Assist guests, help serve as needed, and respond to questions using suggestive selling techniques.
- Clear the buffet table and return utensils, food, and other items to their appropriate places in the kitchen.
- Polish mirrored buspans and the coffee urn daily and return them to dry storage; perform sidework as needed.
