Crossfire developer That's No Moon reportedly lays off 14 staff.

Crossfire developer That's No Moon reportedly lays off 14 staff. That's No Moon, the studio behind the newly revealed Crossfire, has reportedly cut 14 staff just two months after its high-profile Summer Game Fest debut. That's No Moon, the Los Angeles-based studio developing the upcoming third-person shooter Crossfire, has reportedly laid off 14 employees, according to a source cited by Insider Gaming. The cuts are said to have taken place on Thursday, August 7, with former staff beginning to post about the situation on LinkedIn by August 6-7. Crossfire is currently available to wishlist, and you can track the latest pricing at $29.46 via CDKeyPrices. The studio and the game. That's No Moon was founded in 2021 by industry veterans from studios including Naughty Dog and Infinity Ward, and revealed its first AAA offering - a narrative-driven, single-player title called Crossfire - at Summer Game Fest 2026. Korean publisher Smilegate invested $100 million into the studio to expand its reach in the Western Hemisphere. Designed as a premium single-player experience, Crossfire is a third-person tactical action-adventure that combines a cinematic thriller with grounded stealth combat, immersing players in the story of Layla (voiced by Claudia Doumit of The Boys) and Cross (voiced by Ricky Whittle of American Gods), two enemy operators forced into a fraught alliance. As part of its reveal, That's No Moon showcased a brand new system called Adaptive Cover that rewards stealth, reactive thinking, and critical thinking. Smilegate will publish the console versions, while Team K1, a Tencent subsidiary, will publish the Windows version. What's known about the layoffs. 14 employees have allegedly been affected, according to a source, but the studio has yet to officially announce anything, and whether this will affect current development remains unknown. Former employees began posting about the situation on their LinkedIn profiles on August 6, confirming they were affected; roles impacted appear to have included technical and environmental artists. As of publication, That's No Moon has not confirmed the layoffs, and no official reason has been given, though the cuts are believed to have been financially motivated. Crossfire was developed with a team of approximately 230 people, meaning 14 departures represent a small but visible fraction of that headcount - and coming before the game has even secured a release date, the timing raises questions. No release date, no comment. A release date was not given at the time of the Summer Game Fest reveal, nor has one been announced in the weeks that followed. No official figures have been provided for the number of employees affected, and without a statement from the developer it would be premature to assume the layoffs signal a cancellation or major reboot. Smilegate is making another push into the North American and European console markets with Crossfire, about three years after the commercial failure of CrossfireX, and unlike previous entries in the series, the new game abandons the traditional multiplayer first-person shooter format in favor of a third-person single-player action-adventure. The $100 million backing and the high-profile Summer Game Fest slot made Crossfire one of the more anticipated new IPs heading into the back half of the decade - which makes this early turbulence all the more uncomfortable to watch.
