Responsibilities

  • Operate the cash register, handle payments, activate fuel and gift cards, and assist with lottery and ID verification for age-restricted products.
  • Ensure stores are well-stocked and shelves remain fresh, full, and inviting.
  • Help keep stores clean and safe by following established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Complete store housekeeping duties, including cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and emptying trash.

(WHTM)- The convenience store chain Wawa is opening an all-new location in Franklin County on Friday. According to Wawa, the new location will open at 797 Buchanan Trail East in Greencastle at 8 a.m. on Friday, October 2. The grand opening will kick off with a party at 7:55 a.m. Free T-shirts will be awarded to the first 100 customers, and free hot coffee will be available through Sunday, October 4. A "Hoagie for Heroes" hoagie-building competition will be held at 8:30 a.m. following a ceremony with remarks. This is the 67th Wawa to open, with nearly 100 set to open in 2026, the company said. This marks the second location in Franklin County, with the first being located in the Chambersburg area. Wawa's 66th location of the year will open a day earlier in the Midstate. The company said that its new Hummelstown location will open on Thursday, October 1. The company has continued expanding into Central Pennsylvania, with locations opening in Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, and York counties. Wawa's original plan was to have up to 40 stores in the Central Pennsylvania region. "With a commitment to fulfilling lives, we're thrilled to continue our growth and expansion in our existing markets to provide quality fresh food, beverages and support to the community," said John Poplawski, Vice President of Real Estate for Wawa. "In addition, Wawa's continued expansion will mean even more convenience and new jobs in the Central Pennsylvania community."

Wawa names new information technology chief. Bill O'Donnell takes on the role after more than 25 years with the retailer working across fuel operations and project management. Published Oct. 1, 2026 First published on Wawa has promoted company veteran Bill O'Donnell to chief information technology officer, a spokesperson from the convenience retailer confirmed to C-Store Dive. O'Donnell, who has been with Wawa for more than 25 years, now oversees the company's technology strategy and operations, cybersecurity, digital platforms, data and analytics, according to his LinkedIn bio. "Bill O'Donnell has more than 25 years of experience with Wawa in various roles and departments, including his newest role as Chief Information Technology Officer," Wawa's spokesperson said in a statement. Technology plays a key role at Wawa's convenience stores, particularly within its made-to-order foodservice business, which can take orders through mobile ordering and touchscreen kiosks. Last year, the retailer launched a machine-learning-based forecasting and replenishment program designed to reduce food waste. O'Donnell earlier served as Wawa's senior director of retail fuels and business development, according to the company's website, and his LinkedIn bio indicates he held other roles in fuels and project management. He also serves on the board of The Wawa Foundation, a nonprofit supporting the company's charitable initiatives. Wawa's spokesperson did not respond by press time to questions about O'Donnell's responsibilities or who he is succeeding in his new position.

News update for 09/28/26. Sebring City Councilman David Leidel says he plans to resign from the council as he and his wife, Michelle, prepare to relocate to the Huntsville, Alabama area. Leidel was elected to the council in March. His wife recently accepted a dean position at Calhoun Community College. Leidel has not yet announced his resignation's effective date. A new Wawa is set to open next week in Avon Park, at U.S. 27 North and County Road 17-A. The company says the grand opening is scheduled for October 8th at 8 a.m. The store represents an investment of more than seven-and-a-half million dollars and is expected to employ about 35 people. The opening will include giveaways, free coffee and a Hoagies for Heroes fundraiser benefiting local charities. The Highlands County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team is celebrating a big win after taking first place in Saturday's Region Six SWAT Challenge. Thirteen teams competed in five grueling events, with Highlands and Collier County finishing tied at 55 points. Highlands won the tiebreaker by completing the events one minute and six seconds faster than Collier. And the honors continue locally - Sebring Police Sergeant Stephen Williams and Officer Todd Souther have been named this year's HomeTown Heroes, recognized for their dedication and service to the community. A 76-year-old Lake Wales man is facing another DUI charge after deputies say they found him driving erratically while drinking rum and using cocaine. Charles Ducking was pulled over on a suspended license and allegedly told deputies he had just snorted cocaine about ten minutes earlier. His breath tests came back at nearly point-one-zero. He's also facing drug possession and paraphernalia charges.

By Staff September 28, 2026 The Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation recently awarded more than $8.7 million in grants that will improve access to education, career opportunities, cultural experiences, and more, including $1.8 million to Sarasota County Schools; $1.5 million to the YMCA of Southwest Florida; $750,000 to Resilient Retreat; and $350,000 to the Myakka River Partnership, among others. The Florida Center for Early Childhood launched a new program last year at Innovation Academy SRQ, a tuition-free public charter school serving VPK through fifth grade. Now, an $80,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County will expand that program and bring dedicated school-based mental health services to Star Lab, a private K-5 elementary school, for the first time. Funding for this grant was made possible by the foundation's Allen Wirtz Nobbe and Jo Bowen Nobbe Fund, Edward K. Roberts Fund and Leslie and Margaret Weller Fund. Satchel's Last Resort Animal Shelter and Sanctuary exceeded its $50,000 fundraising goal, raising $54,736 for the dogs and cats in its care during its annual Satchel's Giving Day celebration. Children First has received more than $80,000 in recent grant support to expand its programs across Sarasota County, including a $30,000 grant from the Jerome & Mildred Paddock Foundation; $15,000 from the Wilson-Wood Foundation; $15,000 from the Bernard & Mildred Doyle Charitable Trust; $10,000 from the Evalyn Sadlier Jones Foundation; $10,000 from The Libertore Fund for Children; and $1,884 from the MSC Foundation. Additionally, The Zenith contributed $1,555.88 for backpacks and school supplies for Children First's rising kindergartners. Second Heart Homes has received a $15,000 Capacity Building Grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County to strengthen the organization's ability to track and evaluate the progress of residents who have experienced homelessness and live with mental illness. Urban Edge Mentorship, Inc. will recognize the Sarasota High School football program, its coaching staff and its student-athletes with a $20,000 contribution in recognition of the team's commitment to community service and leadership during the 2025-2026 school year. Embracing Its Differences has received a $33,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota to support its educational initiatives in Sarasota County. Argument of Time, a new Sarasota-based arts nonprofit founded by poet Teresa Carson and producer Cynthia Burnell, has received a $5,000 grant from the Johnson Singer Foundation to support an October 2026 residency bringing together six artists to develop "Visit to an Extinct City," a multidisciplinary performance project inspired by the ancient Roman city of Ostia Antica. Sarasota Orchestra has received a $65,000 Strategic Partnership Grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County's Martha Leiter and Nancy Streetman Fund II. The funding will support the Orchestra's Pops Supper Club event, as well as its Young Person's Concerts and Family Concert. The orchestra also received $25,000 in grant funding from The Exchange in support of the its Young Person's Concerts (YPC), including a Program Grant of $20,000, as well as $5,000 from the Elizabeth Lindsay Arts in Education Grant.
