3M's CEO William Brown reports the company's turnaround is ahead of schedule, with adjusted organic sales growing 5.4% in Q2 and margins tracking above 25% by 2027. On-time delivery improved from the low 80% range to around 90%, whilst product launches increased from 125 three years ago to an expected 350 this year. However, legal challenges persist. A Montana federal judge recently allowed a nationwide PFAS class action involving firefighter gear to proceed. Additionally, the Australian government is seeking more than A$2 billion in damages over PFAS-containing firefighting foam. Institutional interest grew, with hedge fund ownership rising from 63 funds in Q1 to 72 in Q2. Short interest remained low at 1.79% of float.
American Graphics & Signs has partnered with 3M to offer 3M™ Cooling Film, a passive-cooling solution designed to reduce heat buildup in commercial fleet vehicles. The film is applied to vehicle roofs and deflects over 85% of solar radiation whilst releasing absorbed heat. A year-long trial across 10 electric delivery vans in Phoenix, Arizona showed the film reduced cargo temperatures by an average of 5.3°F, with reductions up to 10.3°F in August. The cooling effect preserved 4.6 to 8.6 miles of usable electric vehicle range per operating hour, adding roughly 23 to 43 miles during a typical five-hour delivery window. For petrol or diesel vehicles, the film reduces cooling demand and fuel consumption whilst improving driver comfort.
3M has raised approximately €1 billion through fixed-rate Eurobonds maturing in 2028 and 2031. The fundraising adds long-term capital to the company's structure. The stock has experienced recent volatility, with the one-month share price return down 9.68% and the seven-day move also lower. However, the 90-day return stands at 4.26%, whilst the one-year total shareholder return is 6.43%. 3M currently trades at $164.97, below the most followed analyst fair value estimate of $181.85, suggesting the stock may be 9.3% undervalued. The company has accelerated new product launches by 70% year-over-year, targeting 215 for the year, with five-year innovation sales rising 9%. Operational efficiency improvements are driving higher operating margins. However, the valuation narrative depends on PFAS litigation remaining contained and productivity gains continuing.
3M Company shares have risen 5.3% year-to-date, underperforming the Dow Jones Industrial Average's 11.1% gain. Over the past 52 weeks, the stock climbed 8.4%, lagging the Dow's 17.1% return. The diversified technology manufacturer raised its 2026 adjusted earnings per share forecast to $8.80–$8.95 following strong second-quarter results. Revenue increased 2.4% to $6.50 billion, driven by Safety & Industrial sales up over 8% and Transportation & Electronics sales up nearly 6%. 3M's data centre optics business shows promise, with potential revenue growth of four to five times from current levels of $40 million–$50 million annually. Analysts maintain a "Moderate Buy" rating with a mean price target of $188.75, representing potential upside of nearly 12%.
3M has launched 3M™ Cooling Film, a roof-applied heat-management solution for vehicles. The film uses thermal management technology to reflect more than 85% of solar radiation, reducing interior temperatures by up to 10°F. The product targets last-mile delivery fleets, refrigerated trucks and trailers, and passenger rail vehicles. It aims to reduce cooling demand, improve energy efficiency, and protect temperature-sensitive cargo whilst enhancing comfort for drivers and passengers. The film features a durable coating that resists dirt, chemicals, and wear, backed by a five-year warranty. Professional installers can apply it quickly to minimise vehicle downtime. The solution is part of 3M's broader portfolio of heat-management products for the transportation sector.
