Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required.
  • A current Registered Nurse license in South Carolina is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • The position requires the ability to stand for up to twelve hours, walk, sit, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, and smell.
  • The position requires the ability to lift or exert energy up to 35 pounds, with safe patient-handling equipment used for transfers and lifting patients greater than 35 pounds.
  • The position requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision.
  • The position requires the ability to read and interpret business, safety, clinical, and technical materials and regulations.
  • The position requires the ability to write reports, correspondence, or manuals.

  • Staff must understand and respond to patients, family members, and visitors from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Responsibilities
  • Provide professional nursing care within the assigned unit and coordinate care planning with other disciplines.
  • Document initial nursing histories, assess patients' conditions according to policy requirements, and develop individual care plans addressing physical, psychosocial, environmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
  • Assist physicians with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care according to established policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate patient-care outcomes, consult specialists as required, and revise nursing-care processes to obtain optimal patient care.
  • Coordinate discharge planning.
  • Monitor and record patients' conditions.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Formulate teaching plans based on identified learning needs and evaluate their effectiveness, including family teaching when appropriate.
  • Coordinate patients' ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.
  • Communicate patients' conditions during hand-offs.
  • Perform charge duties as requested after six months of nursing experience and appropriate training.
  • Round on patients according to policy to improve clinical outcomes.
  • Orient or mentor new staff members.
  • Listen effectively to patients to facilitate care requirements.
  • Provide first-line customer-service responses.
  • Follow the Medical University of South Carolina Standards of Behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the director of nursing, charge nurse, or medical staff.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.
  • Some clinical or hospital experience is preferred but not required.
